Rebecca, 42, announced the news on Wednesday morning as she called into the show via video chat with her family.

She and her husband Matt Hanson are already parents to their 4-year-old daughter, Isabel.

Rebecca and Matt got married in 2012.

George Stephanopoulos said that Leo had been born about a week ago, after he received a text with a picture of the newborn.

Rebecca called the journey magical and exhausting.

Their pregnancy journey began 10 years ago when Rebecca first tried to get pregnant.

She had Isabel through in-vitro fertilization, after seven rounds of the treatment, and had a miscarriage two years ago after undergoing another round of IVF.

So, the couple decided to have their second child via surrogate.

‘WHAT DO WE DO?’

Rebecca and Matt opened up on GMA about their struggles.

She revealed that she had lost a pregnancy at five months and asked her doctors “What do we do?”

Doctors told her that surrogacy was her “best path forward.”

“And that was painful to hear at the time,” Rebecca said as she turned to look at her husband.

“Every time I got pregnant, I would look at the world with rose-colored glasses.”

“I would imagine what life was going to be like on the other side,” she said with tears in her eyes and a shaky voice.

“Every time I lost a pregnancy, to have that taken away, was so tough.”

Rebecca grabbed Matt’s hand as she wiped away her tears and sniffled.

The GMA host revealed that even in surrogacy she held her breath for a long time.

Rebecca also shared that she felt like she couldn’t be excited about having a baby until she knew it was safe.

“And when it was, I looked at Matt and said, ‘Our family is complete. Our family of four,” she said.

They flew across the country to meet their baby boy and Rebecca shared that was the best feeling.

BIG SISTER

When the family called in, Robin Roberts revealed that Isabel found out she was going to be a big sister while at Disney World.

“We really wanted to do something special with Isabel right before we shared the news that she was going to be a big sister,” Rebecca explained.

“So, we took her to Disney World.”

Rebecca explained that they went to Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom for lunch.

“They gave us these little wishing stars and everyone was supposed to make a wish,” she said.

The ABS News correspondent asked her daughter what she wished for.

“A big brother?” Rebecca asked the 4-year-old as Isabel nodded.

“She didn’t share with us that day what her wish was, but when we told her she was going to have a baby brother, she said, ‘My Disney wish came true’.”

‘GIVE PEOPLE HOPE’

Michael Strahan asked Rebecca what made them want to share this painful journey with everyone.

“We never wanted to jinx it along the way,” she revealed.

“But, we wanted to give other families hope and to make people feel like they are less alone on this path.”

“We never really got a reason, and that is a very common thing,” Rebecca said.

“We want other people going through this to feel like they are less alone and have the resources to think about their journey forward as well.”
