Fox News is facing backlash after a segment featuring Trump administration officials pushing environmental deregulation aired alongside a graphic showing dangerous heat levels across the United States, which is linked to climate change.
In line with the goals outlined in Project 2025, a strategic plan tied to MAGA Republican President Donald Trump’s vision for his potential second term, key federal agencies are being downsized, stripped of power, or dismantled altogether. Among those targeted is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which, under Trump’s leadership, is actively working to roll back a key Obama-era climate regulation.
The regulation in question, known as the “Endangerment Finding,” was introduced in 2009 and classified greenhouse gas emissions as a threat to public health and welfare. It gave the EPA authority to regulate emissions under the Clean Air Act. Now, the Trump administration wants to reverse that decision, which will remove federal responsibility for regulating these emissions and instead leave it up to corporations to self-monitor.
“All in the name of increased profits for corporations with little to no regard for human life or the environment,” one critic noted.
In a recent appearance on Fox News, Trump’s EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and Energy Secretary Chris Wright spoke with anchor Sandra Smith about their agenda to eliminate climate protections. Viewers immediately noticed the pop-up as they began to criticize the irony of the moment.

As the two officials explained their plans to reduce oversight on polluters, a chyron at the bottom of the screen reported that 161 million Americans were currently at risk from extreme heat. Temperatures topping 120°F (49°C) were being recorded across the Midwest and East Coast, which are regions experiencing back-to-back heat advisories.
Fox News viewers stormed social media after they took note of the off-putting moment.
“EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin did this TV hit, bragging about making pollution worse while 168 million Americans were under a heat advisory today,” one person wrote on Twitter.

Another added: “Burn down EPA regulations. Unleash corporations to do anything they want for profits. A sure way to bring us poisoned air, water, & food. Extreme weather is accelerating. The #MadKing wants to drill, baby, drill. To Hell with the future.”
Others reacted to the visual juxtaposition. “Watching them talk about rescinding Greenhouse Gas Emissions while heat index temps over 120 degrees in the Midwest and East Coast scroll across the screen says it all,” one user commented.
One tweet simply read: “Don’t look up!!! Global warming is real, and when Earth burns, MAGA will blame Obama or Joe Biden for it.”
A final critic summed up the moment with: “Lying as they watch the world burn.”
