Lawrence Jones, at just 30, has made history as the youngest Black solo host in cable news history. Next week, he will step into the 8 p.m. slot once held by Tucker Carlson, as Fox News continues its rotating lineup of anchors.
Born in Garland, Texas, Jones joined Fox News in 2018 and by 2022 was leading his own show, “Lawrence Jones Cross Country.” Besides hosting, he’s also a national correspondent for “Fox & Friends,” spending weekends in New York. His Saturday night show alone draws about 1 million viewers.
A media insider shared: “Fox News is trying out many anchors, but naming Lawrence Jones so soon after Tucker Carlson left is especially significant.”
In the past, Jones worked on the Obama campaign at just 15. He has reported live from Uvalde, Texas, after a mass shooting that k1lled 19 children and 2 adults, covered the d3ath of Tyre Nichols, the Idaho murd3rs, protests after George Floyd’s d3ath, and how C0VID-19 hit minority communities.
Speaking to the Dallas Morning News, Jones said: “I never thought I’d be doing this job… I always had an opinion, always advocating.” He shared how Sean Hannity first offered him a role, but he hesitated: “I’m a libertarian, we’ll disagree a lot.” Hannity replied: “That’s OK, just be you.”
Jones added: “I may have a godparent from every race, and that helps me connect with all kinds of people and understand what matters most to them.”
