Australian chef John Torode has been dismissed from MasterChef after nearly two decades following an allegation of using rac1ally offensive language. Just days earlier, his co-host Gregg Wallace was also let go after 45 out of 83 claims of inappropriate conduct were validated, including u::wanted phys1cal c0ntact and pulling down a colleague’s trousers.

In an emotional Instagram post, John said: “I have no recollection of saying such words. I had hoped to speak out before leaving the show I’ve been part of since 2005, but events moved too quickly.” He confirmed the latest series of Celebrity MasterChef will be his last, adding: “I will fondly watch from afar and treasure this incredible time.”

BBC Director General Tim Davie stated MasterChef will continue, as the brand is “bigger than any individual.” He also made it clear: “If someone does not meet the BBC’s values, we must act.”

Amid this storm, three popular names are tipped to replace the duo: Andi Oliver, who could become the show’s first Black woman host; Tom Kerridge, known for his warm, approachable style; and TikTok sensation Poppy O’Toole, appealing to younger audiences.

Gregg Wallace issued an apology: “Some of my jokes crossed the line. I deeply regret any upset caused.” He revealed he was diagnosed with aut1sm during the inquiry, which helped him understand how others perceived him.

The crisis forces the BBC to make tough decisions about airing the already-filmed series hosted by the now-removed presenters.
