Dallas Cowboys’ Hunter Luepke – The POWER DRILL aiming to BREAK through NFL’s Top Defenses: Eagles, Giants, Bears?
Dallas Cowboys fans have high expectations for the team this season. With the arrival of George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb in top form, and Dak Prescott’s return, the Cowboys are poised for success. However, amidst the big names, one under-the-radar player could end up stealing the show-running back Hunter Luepke.
After an inconsistent 2024 season, the Cowboys’ offense is looking to make a statement. Despite past setbacks, the front office appears to have made the right moves to strengthen offensive coordinator Klayton Adams’ unit.
Pickens could be the missing piece in Prescott’s passing attack, finally giving the quarterback another reliable target alongside Lamb. However, some analysts warn against overlooking returning players, as they will be instrumental in leading Dallas to the playoffs.
Luepke: Dallas’ ultimate utility player
DallasCowboys.com analyst Tommy Yarrish emphasized Luepke’s importance to the team, describing him as the Cowboys’ “Swiss Army knife.”
“The Swiss Army knife that is Hunter Luepke can serve a lot of different roles for the Cowboys offense, and that’s been on display early in OTAs,” Yarrish noted.
Now in his third year, Luepke has already played as a running back, fullback, tight end, and contributed on special teams.
“So, which spot does he settle into best?” Yarrish questioned. “Is it all of the above, or does [head coach] Brian Schottenheimer find a permanent home and role for him in his offense?”
Despite Luepke’s versatility, Schottenheimer’s focus on the run game could determine his role.
“His ability as a blocker or short-yardage back gives him a versatile skill set that can be used in-line as a tight end or as a short-yard fullback,” Yarrish added.
What’s next for Luepke and the Cowboys?
Dallas’ schedule will put Luepke and Schottenheimer’s run game to the test right out of the gate. The Cowboys open the season against three of the NFL’s top-ranked run defenses-the Philadelphia Eagles (No. 7), the New York Giants (No. 4), and the Chicago Bears (No. 1).
If Luepke can rise to the challenge, he could solidify his spot on Schottenheimer’s depth chart-and earn a place in the hearts of Cowboys fans.
