The 49-year-old presenter fronted his final edition of the ITV news programme today alongside Kate Garraway. Ben is set to make the move to This Morning and will front the show alongside Cat Deeley.

Ben was emotional at the start of the show after his name was announced as a host on Good Morning Britain for the final time. He said: “I’m desperately trying to hold this together, we’ve got three hours.”

The final half an hour of the programme was devoted to the best bits from Ben’s 10 year stint on Good Morning Britain. Many of Ben’s GMB co-stars including Susanna Reid joined him in the studio as a compilation of his best bits was played.

Ben managed to hold it together throughout the show but struggled to hold back the tears when it showed an exchange with his longtime broadcasting partner, Chris Kamara.

The Goals on Sunday presenter appeared on the show to pay tribute to Ben as he said: “You’re one of the nicest fellas you could ever wish to meet. I owe you so much.” He added: “Without your help and patience, I couldn’t get through the podcast we did together last year.”

Ben ended the show by thanking his fellow broadcasting and the viewers as he said: “I can only cope with this because I’m not going very far.”

Ben will return to ITV to start his stint as a full time presenter on This Morning on March 11.
