House of Games host Richard Osman has opened up about a health struggle that has affected him for most of his life, admitting that he’ll “never be out of it.”

Over the years, the popular game show host has been outspoken about his younger days, previously sharing how he and his brother dealt with their dad leaving the family when Richard was nine. It was also during his early years that he first developed an add1cti0n to eating.

In a wide-ranging discussion on a recent episode of Gyles Brandreth’s Rosebud podcast, he opened up about all areas of his life—from his earliest memories living in Billericay, Essex, to the present day, where he is happily married to Ingrid Oliver, whom he met while she was a contestant on House of Games.

Sharing an honest insight into how he has lived with an eating add1cti0n over the years, he confessed that he doubts there will ever be a day when he no longer has the condition, telling Gyles: “I don’t think I’d ever be out of it—out of it for sure. But certainly, yeah, I’m comfortable with everything at the moment. But I know it’ll come back.”

Explaining how a conversation with his therapist gave him further clarity on the condition, he added: “I talk to Bruce [Richard’s therapist] about it all the time and he says, ‘Well, you’re always going to be an addict. You can’t [stop being one] because you started when you were nine. You’re not suddenly going to not be one.'”

Away from his personal life, he has seen huge success in recent years with the launch of House of Games on the BBC. Now in its eighth series, it shows no signs of any drop-off in popularity and is currently ranked as BBC Two’s number one programme of the day, according to the show’s creators, Banijay.

While he only rose to public attention when he began co-hosting Pointless with Alexander Armstrong, Richard had already been part of the TV industry for years. After working on the production side of numerous shows—including Deal or No Deal and 8 Out of 10 Cats—he later created the game show Pointless. Crucially, it also marked the first time he stepped in front of the camera during his television career. After 13 years co-hosting the show, he decided to step away in 2022.

More recently, he has also found major success as an author, most notably with the release of The Thursday Murder Club, which received widespread acclaim and achieved Platinum Bestseller status.
