Former NFL head coach Jon Gruden has had his name trending as a potential name in the coaching cycle for the first time in years, and now Jerry Jones just added to it.
Will the Dallas Cowboys be interested in the former Super Bowl champion?
Everything depends on whether the Cowboys retain Mike McCarthy, whose contract expires January 14th. They either resign him or let him walk.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, speaking Friday on 105.3 The Fan, was asked about Jon Gruden and the reports linking him as a head coaching candidate around the league.
“I just don’t have any comment there at all,” Jones said via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Jon is a friend, and let’s leave it at that.”
Jerry could’ve ended all speculation by outright denying it, but since he decided not to do that, it will only lead to more speculation as Mike McCarthy’s tenure ends.
Gruden went 22-31 in his second stint with the Raiders (2018-21).
His first stint was much better as the Raiders went 38-26 under Gruden.
Back then, Jon Gruden was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of the 2002 season, and he repaid them by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy with Tampa Bay in his first season at the helm.
Jon Gruden Has Been Out of A Job Since Resigning As HC of The Raiders
Jon Gruden is trying to come back.
Gruden has been out of the league since resigning from the Las Vegas Raisers in 2021 following the leaking of emails that showed him using homophobic and racist language that he sent to then-Washington general manager Brad Allen.
Since being gone from coaching, he has signed with Barstool Sports and has been running a YouTube and TikTok channel where he previews and reviews games.
