Royal fans spot Queen Camilla’s ‘awkward’ moment with Melania Trump and Kate Middleton during state visit

King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed US President Donald Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania, to the UK this week for a second state visit.
On Wednesday (September 17), the Trumps’ visit to Windsor kicked off. But it appeared that Melania, 55, has made her favourite royal pretty clear.
The first lady appeared to break off Queen Camilla mid-conversation as she responded to the Princess of Wales. Now, a lip reader has spilled details on the exchange.

Melania Trump and Queen Camilla’s ‘awkward’ moment
In clips from the meeting between the Trumps and the royals in Windsor shared on social media, Melania was seen talking to Queen Camilla.
However, Camilla, 78, watched on as Melania appeared to quickly wrap up their conversation. She then turned to speak to Princess Kate, 43, instead.
Apparently, Kate reciprocated and put her focus on the first lady. They looked very pleased to see each other.
According to lip reading expert Nicola Hickling, speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Kate noted what Melania was wearing.
She reportedly told the first lady: “Your Macintosh is the same one I have, I wear it each time I fly.”
Melania reportedly replied: “I know, it’s exceptional and such a comfort. Sometimes I wear it to the house.”
She later added: “Sometimes when I come, I don’t want to go back.”

Princess Kate looked glamorous for the occasion in a burgundy Emilia Wickstead dress, paired with the “Neso” hat by Jane Taylor.
Kate finished off her look with a studded diamond and emerald feather brooch, a sweet nod to her late mother-in-law, as it had once belonged to Princess Diana.
Melania looked chic as she wore a Christian Dior Haute Couture dark grey skirt suit and a plum, wide brimmed hat.
Earlier this week, a Trump spokesperson said the couple was “thrilled” that Kate would be “front and centre” during the state visit.
And clearly, this was evident in Melania’s behaviour. But some fans thought it looked “awkward” between Melania, Kate, and Camilla.
One observer penned on X: “Camilla went to speak with Melania but then Kate stepped in and they both shut out Camilla.”
Another said: “Camilla acted like the third wheel. She was a bit lost.”
A third wrote: “Camilla is soooo awkward in this situation.”
Queen Camilla ‘tells Kate to move’
However, others said it looked like they were all enjoying conversation. One said: “What a fabulous photo! I do love Queen Camilla. I mean Catherine and Melania are gorgeous.”
Another added: “Queen Camilla and Melania Trump [have known] each other for years,” followed by a heart face emoji.
After that, Camilla was seen appearing to “usher” Kate away as she spoke with Melania.
One fan claimed on X: “Did you see [Camilla] usher Kate away when she was speaking to Melania?”
Another added: “Camilla shoo’d Kate away like a fly at a picnic fruit table.”
But someone else insisted: “Both Camilla and Kate looked fine… not sure what you’re talking about… she didn’t shoo her off at all.”

Did Donald and Melania Trump break protocol during the first day of their second UK state visit?
Elsewhere, some may be scratching their heads over whether the president and first lady may have already broken protocol during their visit.
During their initial greetings, some eagle-eyed royal observers pointed out that the president did not bow and the first lady did not curtsy while shaking hands with the king and queen.
They also failed to do so whilst being welcomed by William and Kate. A big fail, right?
It seems not! According to the royal family’s official website, they didn’t overlook any expectations.
The website explains: “There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting a member of the royal family.”
The website adds: “But many people wish to observe the traditional forms.”
It goes on to explain: “For men this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way.”
According to reports, there is no requirement for a visiting head of state to perform these gestures.
The same explanation was referenced back in 2018, when Trump was accused of breaking the rules when he shook hands with Queen Elizabeth II instead of bowing.
