TNA bolstered their broadcast team with the official signing of McKenzie Mitchell as ring announcer.
The former NXT host and backstage correspondent recently returned to TNA to debut as ring announcer at Genesis in January. Now, Mitchell has officially signed a contract with TNA. The news was first reported by Sports Illustrated.
In an interview with John Alba of The Takedown on SI, Mitchell explained the differences of her old role in NXT to her new role in TNA. She has some experience as ring announcer at NXT house shows, but this is a step up in the Impact Zone.
Mitchell: “It’s such a different skill to tap into as a backstage interviewer, backstage correspondent. That’s really been my bread and butter for eight years, nine years in professional wrestling. So it’s a different tone. It’s a different conversation, because as a backstage correspondent, you’re conversational, you’re developing that rapport with talent, with an audience, and connecting on a different level to people backstage of when you’re on screen, you want to feel like everybody’s friend. But then when you are a ring announcer, you’re technically projecting your voice in a completely different way. And so, I’ve really honed in that skill lately.”
