Coronation Street star Paddy Bever has announced he is leaving the show – and has already filmed his final scenes. The actor took over the role of Max Turner back in 2021.
The actor, from Stockport took over the role from Harry McDermott, who played the role from 2010. The 11-year-old, from Bury, left to continue with his acting studies and explore other opportunities leading to Paddy being cast in the role.
As for Max, he has been in the sole custody of his step-father David Platt since his mother Kylie’s death in 2016 and has lived with David, step-mum Shona Platt and younger sister Lily at No.8 Coronation Street ever since.
In an interview with Manchester Evening News, Paddy said that he auditioned for the role when he was still studying for his A levels. “I had an A level the next day so I made the decision not to revise for the A level and focus on the tape. I then didn’t hear anything for a month so I presumed I hadn’t got it and then I got called for a screen test which was so exciting,” he said.
“I was so nervous but when I got there it just struck me that everyone was so lovely. I did my screen test with Jack Shepherd, then a week later I found out I’d got the role which was amazing. I also somehow got an A in the A level I didn’t revise for so it all worked out ok in the end!”
Since he joined the soap, Paddy has had some dramatic storylines to deal with, thanks to his character Max often causing or getting into trouble.
But that’s set to come to an end as Paddy confirmed he’ll be leaving the cobbles very soon after almost four years. The 22-year-old said in a statement to the Mirror: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.”

He continued: “It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”
Paddy’s exit comes after Sue Cleaver announced shortly after 2025 that she began her plans to wave goodbye to Weatherfield after 25 years in the role of Eileen Grimshaw. She said: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street. The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”
Colson Smith then confirmed he was told he is being axed this year as he marks 14 years playing Craig Tinker. He said he was called in for a chat back in October where he was told that it was the end of the road for his character, therefor his time on the famous street.
More recently, actress Charlotte Jordan confirmed that she will be bowing out of the ITV soap this year after four years in the role of Daisy Midgeley. The star said in a statement: “My time at Coronation Street is something I’ll always cherish. After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.”
