Richard Osman announces major career move after Netflix success

Throughout the years, Richard Osman has gained recognition primarily for his television work, alongside his more recent success as an author of multiple bestselling novels.
While he earned acclaim for developing and co-presenting Pointless, in more recent times he has shifted his focus towards his literary pursuits.
Although all of his books have enjoyed different levels of success, it was his first novel, The Thursday Murder Club, that became an immediate critical triumph upon its arrival in bookshops during 2020.
Its popularity was so remarkable that The Thursday Murder Club has this year been adapted into a feature film, featuring Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie in the lead roles.

After its release, it has also experienced tremendous popularity on Netflix, securing the top position on the streaming service for several weeks.
Following the success of the book’s screen adaptation, Richard Osman has now shared plans for a new project.
In a recent interview with Candis magazine, he revealed that The Thursday Murder Club is destined for the theatre: “I’m also working on a theatre play of The Thursday Murder Club, a brand-new story in which our four heroes embark on a brand-new adventure, with more news expected next year, I suspect.”
The Thursday Murder Club, which tells the story of four retirement home residents who convene weekly to crack cold cases, takes an unexpected turn when they are tasked with solving a real murder. The film features Dame Helen Mirren as Elizabeth, Celia Imrie as Joyce, Sir Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim, and Pierce Brosnan as Ron.
Following the immense success of his first series of books, Richard Osman launched a new collection last year, with the first instalment, We Solve Murders, debuting in September.
During his chat with Candis, he shared an update on the new series, stating: “I’m now writing the next book in the We Solve Murders series, which I’m very excited about.”
Aside from his recent foray into crime fiction, Osman began his television career working on the production of several popular game shows, including Deal or No Deal, and 8 Out of 10 Cats.
After creating the hit game show Pointless, he moved to co-host the programme, a role he held for 13 years.
His game show career has since flourished, particularly with his BBC show, House of Games. Its popularity is such that it is now in its eighth series.
