An invitation personally signed by King Charles has been hand-delivered to the White House
Princess Kate could be the “icing on the cake” for Donald Trump during his unprecedented second state visit to the UK, according to a veteran royal expert.
Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles was “looking forward” to welcoming the US leader later this year.
“His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year,” a Palace aide said on June 25.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to play a key role in the grand occasion, with royal expert Jennie Bond believing Kate will be an extremely valuable presence.

“The icing on the cake for Donald Trump would, of course, be the presence of the Princess of Wales at some of the events and at the state dinner,” Bond told The Mirror.
However, the former BBC royal correspondent cautioned that Kate’s appearance would be entirely governed by her own ability to do so.
“That will depend on her health,” Bond explained.
The veteran royal expert also believed Prince William will inevitably take a “prominent role” when the President is treated in the UK.

William has also been predicted to serve a ‘prominent’ role in proceedings, owed to Trump’s fondness for him.

“President Trump appears to have taken a shine to William after their meeting at Notre Dame. So I’m sure we shall see Prince William taking a prominent role in the state visit,” Bond analysed.
The US President reportedly became “obsessed” with William, calling him “very handsome” after their encounter at the Parisian cathedral’s reopening.
Bond believed the Prince and Princess would appreciate how crucial they would be for British diplomacy during the visit.
“I’m sure both William and Catherine recognise the importance of massaging the President’s ego, and they will play as prominent a part as possible,” she said.
