Joe Rogan Believes Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Was Sparring Not a Real Fight

Last year, fans witnessed a shocking matchup as Jake Paul faced off against Mike Tyson. The idea of a viral star challenging a boxing icon seemed absurd, yet it became a huge spectacle. UFC commentator Joe Rogan remarked that the bout felt more like a casual sparring session than a fierce contest. His observation sparked debate over whether the fight was staged, fixed, or simply a lopsided contest between an aging legend and a social media phenomenon making serious waves.
Rogan weighed in on Paul vs. Tyson’s fight, saying it looked more like a sparring session than an actual bout. While he avoided making bold claims, he emphasized that his educated assessment led him to believe the fight lacked real intensity. Rogan admitted he hadn’t discussed it with anyone directly, but from what he observed, it didn’t carry the energy of a full-fledged competition.
He said, “It looked like sparring to me. That is what it looked like to me. I would not want to speculate because I have not talked to anyone about it. But my educated assessment is yes, it looked like sparring. It did not look like a fight.”
Rogan doesn’t think a fight between Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez would be like his bout with Tyson. He believes Canelo would bring the heat, making it a real fight. Rogan thinks the Mexican champ’s goal would be clear: to knock Jake Paul out. With Canelo’s experience and skill, it’s hard to imagine Paul having much of a chance in that kind of matchup.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Rogan was asked by guest Peter Berg, who he considers the greatest fighter of all time. After comparing the legacies of several legends, Rogan landed on Jon Jones, citing his 14 years as a world champion. He acknowledged the challenge of comparing resumes, noting the differences in opponents faced by Jones, Georges St-Pierre, and Khabib.
Rogan praised Jones’ longevity but also mentioned Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson as possibly the best martial artist he’s ever seen, emphasizing his exceptional technique. He also pointed to Georges St-Pierre, who was a two-division world champion and made a successful return after a long hiatus. While acknowledging the difficulty in naming a clear greatest of all time, Rogan ultimately leaned toward Jon Jones.
