A comic has issued an apology following an inappropriate joke she made about Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce and his pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift.
Hannah Berner, a stand-up comedian, has come under fire after comparing the tight end to Luigi Mangione during Netflix’s ‘Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year.’
“Luigi is so hot right now. Who knew – besides Travis Kelce – that you could become so popular with women by shooting loads into a billionaire?” she asked.
The joke didn’t go over so well with Swift fans, who have been slamming her on social media.
Berner only recently faced rife criticism for a joke she made about Swift’s friend, Blake Lively, a few weeks ago.
“The word c**t was trending this year. I don’t think Blake Lively was that bad,” she said then.
Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift Are Still Waiting For An Apology
While Berner hasn’t retracted her joke about Kelce and Swift, she has apologized for her Lively joke, having found out that the latter is suing her ‘It Ends With Us’ co-star Justin Baldoni for sexual harassment and setting up a smear campaign.
“My joke in the Netflix roast was filmed before news of the lawsuit,” Berner noted on her IG Story (H/T Marie Claire). “To be 100 percent clear, I support Blake xoxo.”
Swifties are looking forward to an apology for Taylor Swift. But it would defeat the purpose of comedy having to apologize to everyone a comic offends; that is the point of stand-up, after all.
To our knowledge, neither Kelce nor Swift has responded to the joke.
Meanwhile, Berner has seen her own special launch on Netflix, which premiered at No. 2 on the charts. Her approach may just help move her career forward. Then again, it might not. Let’s wait and see
