NFL free agency has begun, with players expected to find new teams over the next two days – and fans hoping for live updates on social media were left wanting after X went down

NFL fans were left scrambling around for updates after X [formerly Twitter] seemingly suffered a major global outage – right as free agency started.
Teams started to make moves with free agents on Monday at midday Eastern time, with the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields, and Russell Wilson all expected to decide on their futures. Fans have been eagerly waiting for news ahead of the window opening, but were left wanting in the large part due to the global X outage.
According to reports, the Elon Musk-owned social media platform suffered three outages on Monday alone, with fans fleeing to BlueSky and Threats to get their instant news instead. Mirror U.S Sports meanwhile, has you covered with a live blog.
Fans expecting to get their news from the likes of Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport were forced to go elsewhere, letting their fury be known on Threads. One fan wrote: “Remember people, with Elon Musk’s c—– social media platform down on one of the busiest NFL days of the new year, it’s smart to invest in other platforms.”
Another posted: “NFL Free Agency with Twitter/X being down was NOT on the 2025 Bingo Card lol. Everyone rushing in to keep up with all the latest moves.”
Contract news came thick and fast despite the absence of Twitter, with the Chicago Bears paying out to sign center Drew Dalman after his departure from the Atlanta Falcons. His deal was worth $42 million and was made just an hour and a half into the free agency window.

The Kansas City Chiefs, retooling after their Super Bowl LIX defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, acquired defensive tackle Jaylon Moore on a two-year $30 million deal. Moore left the San Francisco 49ers at the end of his contract and will earn $21 million guaranteed.
The Jacksonville Jaguars also made a move early, signing Jourdan Lewis on a three-year $30 million deal, with $20 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid nickel cornerback in the league.
Some of the biggest dominoes are yet to fall at the time of writing, however, with Rodgers said to be inching closer to the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading Fields to find a new team – quite possibly the New York Giants.
