Prince Harry is said to have “obviously hated” one major aspect of his life as a royal, according to one royal expert. The 41-year-old was bought up as the ‘spare’ to his elder brother, Prince William, who is now next in line to the royal throne.
Just three days after Prince George’s 13th birthday, Channel 5 aired a documentary, on July 25, which looked at the way that William and his wife Princess Catherine are raising the next generation of royals – including their teenage son. The couple also have two younger children, Princess Charlotte, 11, and eight-year-old Prince Louis.

Richard Kay, Editor-at-large, Daily Mail, explained to on the show that Harry struggled with being the ‘spare to the heir’.
He said: “The heir and the spare thing is a little bit cruel.
“Yes, Charlotte and Louis are spares as it were, like Harry. He obviously resents the heir and the spare thing, but Diana definitely tried to protect him from that.”
Speaking of the late royal, he added: “I remember how Diana, for example, complained to the Queen Mother when Queen Elizabeth would always put Prince William next to her because he was the important one.
“She had to go to her and say. ‘Grandmama, please can you show the same to Harry?’ I suspect it was rather difficult for someone like the Queen Mother to change her ways.”

Harry, who has been feuding with the royals for some time, travelled back to the UK last week – and was joined by his wife and children days later.
The royal released Spare, his 416-page bombshell memoir, in January 2023 – followed by a paperback version just 21 months later.
Harry now resides in California with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
