Denise Welch hospitalised following ‘collapse’ as she reveals crippling double health diagnosis
‘My mother said to just take me to the knacker’s yard’
Denise Welch has revealed she was hospitalised last week, with the star also sharing that she’s been absent from Loose Women this year following a setback with her mental health.
Returning to the Loose Women panel today (February 11), Denise shared that she first noticed her mental health declining back in November. She was appearing in pantomime at the time.

Denise Welch in mental health ‘collapse’
“I ploughed on and started the pantomime and within three days I collapsed in the foyer of the hotel I was staying in. I got back to the room and said to my agent you’ve got to pull me out,” she shared.
Denise then added: “I was so terrified of the reaction, but my agent phoned the company manager of the panto and the first thing he said was: ‘Is she on her own? Does she want me to go and be with her?’” Denise revealed, fighting back tears.
“They called me a car and I was going home and I got to rest and recuperate and get well.”

‘I’ve been in hospital for a week’
However, after getting her mental health back on track, Denise revealed that her physical health then suffered a setback.
She shared: “And then, I’m laughing about it now. But I got back from a lovely holiday in the Caribbean last Saturday, all bronzed and looking forward to coming on here last week and showing off my suntan. And then I got rushed into hospital with acute peritonitis and acute diverticulitis. So I’ve been in hospital on a drip for a week.”

Denise then shared some good news: “But anyway, they didn’t have to do surgery, they caught it with antibiotics. And eventually, after my mother said to just take me to the knacker’s yard, I’m back.”
She then revealed more details of her recovery: “I’m eating. And, believe you me, what’s going on down there, I am a Loose Woman, that’s all I’m going to say,” she laughed.
What is peritonitis and diverticulitis?
Peritonitis is the inflammation of the peritoneum, the lining of the inner wall of the abdomen and cover of the abdominal organs. Symptoms may include severe pain, swelling of the abdomen, fever or weight loss.
Diverticulitis, meanwhile, is inflammation of irregular bulging pouches in the wall of the large intestine. It can cause severe pain, fever, nausea and changes in your stool habits.
