Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos got a few marital wires crossed due to a technological glitch that also, curiously enough, involved legendary Today weatherman Al Roker.
The Live cohosts recalled a comical story on Tuesday morning’s show, involving a text message mixup from earlier in their relationship, after Ripa revealed that the couple had once exchanged phone numbers with Roker after meeting him at an event, in the hopes of planning to get a meal with him in the future.
Kelly Ripa convinced herself she ‘could make crystal meth’ after watching Breaking Bad: ‘I think I can make meth!’
Ripa said that, at the time, a technical gaffe with their cell phone carrier led to Consuelos sometimes receiving texts intended for her iPhone, given that they were on the same plan. This, she said, led to her husband getting an alarming message from an unknown number.
“[It said] ‘Hey sweetie, when can we have dinner? Love, Al,'” Consuelos remembered, before Ripa clarified: “First of all, it did not say, ‘Hey sweetie,’ that’s you putting your own twist on it!”

Before Ripa confirmed the identity of the mystery texter, Consuelos continued, adding, “She gets back into bed and I go, ‘Who the blank is Al!?'”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Roker at Today for comment.
Ripa’s cell phone is, given recent developments, a hotbed of spicy activity in other ways, as the daytime TV icon rang in the holiday season by showing the Live audience a sneak peek at a nearly nude photo of Consuelos on her phone in November 2024.
In other Ripa-Consuelos-Roker news, the Live cohosts also told another amusing story on Tuesday’s show, with Consuelos admitting that he once bombed a guest weatherman gig on Good Morning America by quoting one of Roker’s signature lines about weather in the audience’s “neck of the woods” — a quote Roker regularly uses on the Today show, a direct GMA competitor.
Live with Kelly and Mark airs weekdays in syndication. Check your local listings for showtimes in your area.
