Hargreaves said the reaction suggested something stronger than simple indifference towards the Duchess.
After speaking with people in the area, she wrote that the mood was not merely: “We don’t want anything to do with her.”
Instead, she characterised the attitude as closer to: “Do not degrade my house by bringing it up.”
