Meghan Markle Told to ‘Be Very Careful’ as Netflix Acting Comeback Talks Continue

Meghan Markle has been warned to think carefully about her next role as reports continue to swirl around a potentially lucrative return to television.

The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly still being considered for the third season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen, despite earlier claims that the proposed casting had collapsed following a negative reaction in Britain.

No formal agreement has been reached, and Netflix has neither announced Meghan’s involvement nor officially confirmed a third season. Yet the latest report claims discussions remain active and executives are still keen to bring her into the gangster comedy-drama.

Any potential deal could be worth more than £1 million, according to estimates. A television source said Meghan’s involvement would be expected to attract a sizeable audience made up of both supporters and critics.

“It will be seen as a major coup for whoever signs her,” the source said.

The possible role would continue Meghan’s recent return to acting following her cameo in Close Personal Friends. It also comes amid reports that she and Prince Harry are preparing to spend an “extended period” back in the UK.

Conflicting reports over Netflix talks

Speculation surrounding Meghan’s possible appearance in The Gentlemen has changed rapidly.

Initial reports suggested she was discussing a major role in the show. Royal author Tina Brown later claimed the casting had fallen through after the idea received an unfavourable response in Britain.

The latest account now suggests that Netflix remains interested, although nothing has been signed.

With Harry and Meghan reportedly seeking to improve how they are viewed in the UK, etiquette expert Jo Hayes believes the duchess must consider the wider consequences of any acting comeback.

“If I were to advise Meghan, I would advise against a return to acting,” Hayes said. “Or, if it does happen, be very, very careful and very, very selective with regard to the roles she plays.”

Hayes argued that Meghan’s position remains unusual because, although she is no longer a working royal, she is still a member of the royal family and therefore faces expectations that would not apply to most actors.

She warned that choosing a role involving scandal or indecent themes could undermine any attempt to repair the Sussexes’ public image in Britain.

Unless Meghan was offered what Hayes described as a “squeaky-clean role in a squeaky-clean show,” she said she would advise the duchess not to return.

Could acting change Meghan’s UK image?

Public relations expert David Johnson also questioned whether a high-profile television role could transform Meghan’s reputation.

He suggested that acting again might improve her image slightly, but argued that a complete reversal of public opinion was unlikely following what he described as a series of past missteps.

Johnson also claimed Meghan should be “thankful” that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has faced such intense public scrutiny over his past association with the late convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Without the ongoing attention surrounding Andrew, Johnson argued, Meghan could have faced even more criticism from the British public.

A very different role from Suits

The Gentlemen would take Meghan into a world far removed from the legal drama that made her famous.

The Netflix series stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman, a man who unexpectedly inherits his father’s title and sprawling country estate. He soon discovers that a criminal organisation is operating an illegal cannabis business beneath the property.

Kaya Scodelario plays Susie Glass, who helps oversee the empire as Eddie becomes caught between gangsters, family conflict and increasingly dangerous schemes.

Meghan previously played paralegal Rachel Zane in Suits for seven seasons. Her final episode aired in 2018 after she left the series while preparing to join the royal family.

Whether The Gentlemen becomes her full-scale television comeback remains uncertain. For now, the reported talks continue — but so do the warnings about what the wrong role could cost her.
