Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come under fresh criticism over their security arrangements after two TalkTV commentators accused the couple of using concerns surrounding Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to strengthen their case for taxpayer-funded protection.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently moved their children to a different school only days into the new term following concerns raised by their private security team.
During a discussion on his Drivetime programme, presenter Kevin O’Sullivan made the highly critical claim that there was reason to suspect Harry and Meghan were using their children as “pawns” in a wider push for round-the-clock security funded by the taxpayer.
The accusation has not been established as fact and reflects O’Sullivan’s interpretation of the Sussexes’ actions.
His guest, TalkTV contributor Samara Gill, agreed with him and went even further in her criticism.
TalkTV Contributors Launch Fierce Attack
Gill alleged that Archie and Lilibet were being used as “exhibits” in an effort to secure taxpayer-funded protection for the family.
She also claimed taxpayers could ultimately end up paying for Harry and Meghan’s lifestyle if their security arrangements were upgraded.
Again, those claims were Gill’s opinion and were not presented with evidence showing that Harry and Meghan deliberately changed their children’s school in order to influence a security decision.
The Sussexes’ stated concern has instead centred on whether their private team could safely manage the daily school run.
The situation emerged after Archie and Lilibet began attending a new school following the family’s return to Britain.
But the arrangement lasted only days before their parents decided another school would be more practical.
A source quoted by HELLO! said the decision had been extremely difficult because the family “absolutely adored” the school and the children had enjoyed being there.
According to that account, the problem was that the security team ultimately concluded they could not make the journey “operationally secure”.
School Run Became Major Security Concern
Reports claimed heavy traffic and the distance involved put significant pressure on Harry and Meghan’s private protection team.
The team was also reportedly experiencing problems keeping the family’s convoy together during the journey.
The couple therefore moved Archie and Lilibet to another school shortly after the beginning of term.
The source article states that heavy traffic and the lengthy school run were believed to have placed the security operation under strain.
The school change has become closely linked to the wider debate over what protection Harry and Meghan should receive now that they are living in Britain again.
Harry has previously challenged decisions concerning his police protection in the UK, while the family currently relies heavily on private security.
That background has fuelled speculation over whether the latest difficulties could form part of future discussions about their protection arrangements.
However, a difficult school run does not in itself establish that the children were moved specifically to support a security claim.
Grim ‘Riots’ Prediction Sparks Further Drama
Gill then made an especially dramatic prediction about what she believed could happen if taxpayers were required to fund Harry and Meghan’s security.
“I think there’ll be riots in the street,” she said, before stressing that she did not want anyone to act aggressively.
She nevertheless repeated her prediction that public unrest could follow if taxpayers were made to cover the cost of the couple’s protection.
The remark was speculative and there is no evidence in the source establishing that such unrest is expected.
It added another heated dimension to a debate that has already followed the Sussexes since their return to Britain.
Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020, when they announced plans to become financially independent and divide their time between Britain and North America.
Their latest move back to the UK has brought long-running questions about security firmly back into focus.
For the Sussexes, the immediate issue was finding a school arrangement that their protection team considered manageable.
For their critics, however, the episode has become part of a much larger argument over whether the British taxpayer should ever contribute to protecting Harry, Meghan and their children.
