BREAKING NEWS: Strictly star accuses Susanna Reid of rolling her eyes at him on GMB
Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Appleton called out Susanna Reid during a lively Good Morning Britain interview after believing the presenter had rolled her eyes at him.
Celebrity hairstylist Chris appeared on the ITV breakfast show alongside fellow Strictly contestant Delta Goodrem ahead of the launch of the new BBC series.
The conversation initially focused on whether Eurovision star Delta might have an advantage on the dancefloor because of her previous stage experience.
Delta played down the suggestion, saying she was simply “excited to dance”.
Chris then reflected on his own experience of joining Strictly, describing the opportunity as something special and admitting he tries to remember how fortunate he is whenever the pressure becomes overwhelming.
“If I get overwhelmed, I just remember how lucky we are to do it because it’s such a special experience,” he said.
But the interview suddenly took an awkward turn when Chris interrupted himself and looked towards Susanna.
“The eye rolls here, you’re scaring me,” he remarked.
Susanna Quickly Denies Eye-Rolling
The camera was not focused on Susanna at the exact moment Chris made the accusation, meaning viewers could not clearly see what expression had prompted his comment.
But the 55-year-old presenter immediately reassured him that she was not mocking what he had said.
“No, I think that’s a really grounded thing to say; no, you’re absolutely right,” Susanna responded once the camera returned to her.
Chris appeared reassured by her explanation.
Susanna then echoed his point, agreeing that taking part in a show like Strictly was “a privilege”.
The moment appeared to be resolved almost as quickly as it began, with no indication of any serious disagreement between the pair.
Chris continued talking enthusiastically about the programme, explaining how surreal it felt to go from watching Strictly with his family as a child to actually standing on its famous dancefloor.
“Watching it on TV when I was younger with my family to then being on that dance floor is a really special experience,” he said.
Chris Shows Off His ‘War Wounds’
Chris also revealed that his introduction to the ballroom had already left him with a few physical reminders.
Rolling up his sleeve during the interview, he showed what he jokingly referred to as his “war wounds” from filming the launch episode.
The marks appeared as several thin scratches on his arm.
Despite the risks and pressures that come with training, Chris made clear he was embracing the experience.
The celebrity hairstylist is best known for working with some of the biggest names in entertainment and is particularly close to Kim Kardashian.
Naturally, the presenters wanted to know whether Kim might eventually appear in the Strictly audience to support him.
Chris stopped short of promising an appearance but revealed she had already sent him an encouraging gift.
He said Kim had recently sent a “beautiful bouquet of flowers” with a message telling him to “break a leg”.
For Chris, simply knowing that support was there appeared to mean a great deal.
“It’s really nice to know I have that support,” he said.
Another Unpredictable Week on Good Morning Britain
The lighthearted clash came during an eventful few days for Good Morning Britain.
Only the previous day, Kate Garraway had been forced to step away from the programme after losing her voice.
Kate explained that she was not in pain or feeling unwell but believed she had simply talked too much during a particularly busy week.
Journalist Faye Barker was brought in to replace her.
For Susanna, meanwhile, the brief misunderstanding with Chris proved considerably less dramatic.
Although he initially thought she was rolling her eyes at his comments, her immediate response made clear she actually agreed with what he had been saying.
And rather than ending in tension, the exchange ultimately reinforced Chris’s central point: he feels fortunate to be part of Strictly and is determined to enjoy the experience, even when nerves, injuries and awkward live-TV moments inevitably come with it.
