Piers Morgan has launched a scathing attack on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the couple said they were “a little surprised” not to have been told in advance about King Charles’s latest clarification of their royal status.
The outspoken broadcaster accused the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of “unbelievable impertinence” after their spokesperson responded to the King’s letter, which reaffirmed that the couple remain non-working members of the Royal Family following their return to Britain.
Taking to X, Morgan wrote: “Already whining about The King reiterating a simple fact.”
He then added that the couple were displaying “unbelievable impertinence,” before finishing with another cutting remark: “but so typical of these clowns.”
Sussexes Say They Were ‘A Little Surprised’
Harry and Meghan recently returned to the UK and are reportedly living in the Cotswolds with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Following the release of the King’s letter, a spokesperson for the couple said: “We were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance.”
That statement quickly became another flashpoint in the continuing debate over the Sussexes’ relationship with the Palace.
Royal sources subsequently disputed the suggestion that the couple had received no warning.
According to the report, Harry and Meghan were made aware of the letter before it was publicly released on Monday afternoon, although that does not necessarily mean they had been consulted on its contents.

“It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of the Sovereign, and are no longer working members of the Royal Family,” the letter said.
It also made clear that their charitable activities remain separate from the official work of the monarchy.
“The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity,” the guidance stated.
The clarification appears designed to remove any ambiguity created by the couple’s return to Britain.
Their presence in the UK does not restore their previous royal duties or alter the agreement reached after their departure from official life.
Security and Public Funds Also Addressed
The letter also covered questions involving security and the use of public resources.
“Any operational security issues should continue to be directed to the relevant police authorities,” it said.
It added that questions from official or state organisations about courtesies extended to Harry and Meghan, particularly where public money might be involved, should be referred to Buckingham Palace.
That language reinforces the distinction between the couple’s personal status as members of the Royal Family and their lack of an official working role.
Morgan’s reaction focused heavily on what he saw as the simplicity of that message.
From his perspective, the King was merely restating an established position rather than announcing a new restriction.
