A tense royal clash took place on Good Morning Britain.
Susanna Reid and Ed Balls returned to the ITV studios on Tuesday (July 7) to deliver the latest headlines from across the UK and around the world.
The hosts focused their attention on Prince Harry after Buckingham Palace said that the Duke of Sussex would not be staying at the palace during his visit to London this week, despite his team announcing that he had accepted an invitation to do so.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry said that despite their earlier statement, they understood that the offer to stay at the palace had been “withdrawn” – a decision they described as “disappointing”.
It is understood that the Duke of Sussex will not be joined by his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children during his visit, after it was confirmed that the family would not be provided with taxpayer-funded police security.

A royal debate took place on GMB this morning. Royal commentator Afua Hagan believed that the King had revoked Harry’s invitation on purpose, while former Royal Editor at The Sun Duncan Larcombe thought that Prince Harry had brought it on himself.
Ed soon found himself clashing with Afua over the Home Office declining Harry and Meghan’s request for armed protection.
“The security issue was worked out months ago,” Ed noted, with Afua interrupting: “No, no, Ed, I have to push back on that.”
Ed added: “They’ve known that all along. That’s not the reason for the debate in the last two days,” with Afua firmly disagreeing: “I’m going to have to push back on that one. RAVEC [Royal and VIP Executive Committee] have not done an updated risk assessment on the security that Prince Harry needs since 2019.”
The host hit back, saying: “The Home Office said yesterday that RAVEC assessed the risk… Are you saying that RAVEC aren’t doing their job? Are you saying the Home Office is incompetent, they’re happy to risk the security of Prince Harry?”
The guest replied: “I am saying that, and I will say that will my whole chest 10 toes down.”

Ed wasn’t impressed: “Sorry Afua, RAVEC have done their job. You just don’t like their conclusion,” adding: “I find that unbelievable.”
He concluded by saying: “I think [Harry] should tell his media people to get a grip.”
GMB viewers were left frustrated just minutes into the show, with many complaining about Prince Harry being the main news story of the day.
“#GMB is obsessed with Prince Harry,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), with another adding: “#GMB desperate to make a story out of nothing. Pathetic.”
A third said: “Give it a rest!” while someone else shared: “No one is interested.”

“Who actually cares? The constant discussion about this is boring and getting ridiculous,” a fifth viewer commented, with another echoing the sentiment: “It is a slow news day? Obviously a no news day.”
