Patrick Mahomes’ mom has said her father is ‘hanging on’ in hospice care to try and see his grandson in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
She revealed in January that her father’s health had taken a turn but she has still made it to New Orleans to support her son as he tries to secure the ‘three-peat’ with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Randi told People: ‘I know that it has meant a lot to him (that Patrick is in another Super Bowl). And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.
‘I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud. And my mom was very proud and his other grandparents.’
Mahomes’ mom added that she has kept the Chiefs quarterback updated on his grandfather’s help but has tried not to ‘bug him’ ahead of what could be a career-defining game.
She has repeatedly spoken on social media about her father, Randy, and his ill health but has never revealed precisely what the issue is. Randy turned 78 on January 6.

Patrick Mahomes’ mother Randi revealed in January that her father is now in a hospice
For the Chiefs star Patrick, the news also comes weeks after the birth of his third child, a second daughter called Golden Raye.
Randi Mahomes took to Instagram over the holidays and asked for prayers for her father, Randy and in September shared a picture of herself watching Patrick and the Chiefs play from her dad’s hospital bed.
‘Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy,’ she wrote on September 13 as the Chiefs played the Los Angeles Chargers. ‘He is in the hospital and is not well.’
She also shared a picture of her father out of hospital on Thanksgiving and said she was thrilled to be celebrating with him.
Patrick, meanwhile, took some time to decompress from an intense week of buildup to the Super Bowl on Friday night.
He headed out for dinner with his wife Brittany and teammate Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift in the trendy Magazine Street for dinner.
Brittany had arrived in New Orleans earlier that day and she is set to bring their newborn baby to the Super Bowl on Sunday.
