It’s official!

On September 9, Good Morning America star Robin Roberts announced she and fiancée Amber Laign wed in an intimate ceremony after 18 years together. According to People, around 250 guests attended the couple’s nuptials, which were held at Farmington Gardens in Farmington, Connecticut.

After teasing the timing of her wedding weeks before the event occurred, she went on Instagram to share photos of the two in their gowns taken on their special day. “An intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception … ohhhh the dancing!!” she captioned the post. “We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”

As viewers may know, the ABC co-host never misses an opportunity to celebrate Amber, whether it’s an anniversary or a special date night. Now, more than 17 years as a couple, Robin is opening up about plans to officially tie the knot. In honor of the new year, the anchor shared on GMA that she and Amber were ready to take the next step in their relationship.

“I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet … I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage,” Robin said on January 2. “We’re getting married this year.”

Robin Roberts Set To Marry Amber Laign In 2023

According to the broadcast journalist, it’s not a new idea but it was shelved when Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2021. “It was something we had talked about but we had put it off, she became ill but … it is saying yes to that, and that next chapter,” Robin added on the morning show.

The milestone will probably mean that much more for the two of them because they almost didn’t happen. According to an Instagram post by Amber, the couple first crossed paths back in 2005. Amber met Robin for drinks on a blind date that both had hilariously tried to cancel twice. Once they finally did meet up though, there was an instant connection.

“We had a second date soon after and I couldn’t believe how at ease I was with you as we shared each other’s lives sipping lychee and apple martinis,” Amber’s caption read, in part. “You left for Tahiti the following day and during that time apart I grew this feeling inside of me that still, is very present today … butterflies.”

From there, Amber and Robin’s relationship continued to develop. But it wasn’t until 2013, when Robin publicly came out as a lesbian, that the GMA host spoke about her girlfriend. While commemorating being 100 days past her bone marrow transplant, which she needed after being diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome, she wrote on Facebook that she was “grateful” for Amber.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2014, Robin reflected on her Facebook post, while also sharing that her girlfriend “doesn’t really like the spotlight.”

“She’s very, very supportive and she’s been right there beside me every step of the way,” Robin said on the daytime TV show. “And it was actually the end of the year on my Facebook and I had been thanking my doctors, my nurses and my sister who was a perfect match and I said [to Amber] I want to say thank you.”

Robin Roberts Discusses Her Girlfriend

To this day, the couple continue to support each other with their respective careers — Robin at GMA and Amber as a licensed massage therapist and the co-founder of the CBD and essential oils brand Plant Juice Oils. Apart from posting about each other, the couple will occasionally make joint appearances at various media events or even on GMA. Generally though, they keep a relatively low profile.

And while they stay off camera for the most part, they two are very much in love.

“Having you by my side is a gift as we continue to navigate this thing called life. I drive you crazy …. I know which is why I love you even more to this day,” Amber’s Instagram post read.

In reply, Robin wrote back,”Beautiful…..absolutely beautiful. I love you with all my heart…..boo boo 😉 ❤😘😍❣~.”
