Returning to the studio, Ranvir explained the show involved confronting personal fears, prompting Kate to respond: “I didn’t know you had a fear of water?” Ranvir replied: “Yeah, it’s been there forever. I was about two or three when I jumped into a pool and went under.”

However, audiences must wait until Saturday (September 5) night to find out how successfully Ranvir completed the challenge. Additional famous participants appearing throughout the series include Joey Essex, John Bercow, Jenny Ryan, JB Gill, Danny Aarons, Sara Davies, Graeme Souness, Ellie Taylor and Shakira Khan.

The programme sees the celebrity contestants deposited at a secret location where they must complete a task. They remain unaware of their objective until the doors reveal it to them.\

Tasks range from physical, mental, logical, amusing, somewhat intimidating, or indeed a combination of all those elements. A synopsis for the programme explains: “With minimal or no instruction, they must decipher and work out what to do.

“At the end of each episode, two players will battle it out in The Duel, a high-stakes head-to-head game to avoid elimination. The Box promises shocking reveals, mind-bending puzzles, and plenty of twists across the series.”

Discussing the show, Gary admitted it differs from anything he’s previously undertaken. He said: “It’s different – it’s something I’ve never done before, which appealed to me, alongside the unique nature of the concept.

“It’s fun, it’s family-friendly, and it’s great prime time telly. What’s not to like? ! You make assumptions about how someone will cope based on what you know of them, and then The Box opens and you’re proved completely wrong.”
