ROYAL DRAMA: Meghan and Harry’s UK nightmare torn apart with two words as Charles feud escalates
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain has become caught up in another royal dispute after Uganda withdrew from the Invictus Games and a source close to the Duke appeared to link the decision to King Charles’ recent guidance on the Sussexes.
The suggestion prompted a blunt response from royal correspondent Cameron Walker during an appearance on GB News, where he described the argument in just two words: “It’s insane.”
The latest disagreement comes as Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the Royal Family remains under intense scrutiny following their move back to the UK.
At the centre of the row is a letter issued to senior officials under the King’s direction, reiterating that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain non-working royals and are considered private citizens.
That guidance has now been drawn into the fallout surrounding Uganda’s decision to leave the Invictus Games.
Uganda Pulls Out of Invictus Games
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s military chief and the son of the country’s president, announced the withdrawal in a statement posted on X.
Uganda had joined the Invictus Games community only two years earlier, with the country’s defence minister previously appearing alongside Harry in London to announce its participation.
General Kainerugaba said Uganda wanted to avoid any suggestion that it was acting against King Charles.
“In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games,” he wrote.
He added that the country would not participate in anything it believed did not have the monarch’s approval.
Shortly afterwards, a source close to Harry told ITV that Uganda’s decision appeared to be connected to the Lord Chamberlain’s guidance regarding Harry and Meghan.
The source claimed the document had been “rushed out without consultation” and said the people most affected by the fallout would be Invictus competitors.
Walker strongly rejected that interpretation during his television appearance.
“It’s insane,” he said, before pointing out that Harry and Meghan have been outside the group of working royals since 2020.
“Nothing has changed,” he argued.
King’s Letter Creates Fresh Confusion
Walker acknowledged that the formal guidance may nevertheless have created some uncertainty because it restated that the Sussexes do not represent the sovereign.
He also noted that Charles has supported causes involving veterans and injured service personnel, making the suggestion that the King disapproved of Invictus particularly complicated.
For Harry, the situation is uncomfortable because the Invictus Games remains one of the most prominent projects associated with him.
