Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell has spoken about the difficult birth of her son, Bowden, which she described as “a real shock to the system”. The 37-year-old welcomed her first child with partner Joe Sugg in March, having competed in the 2025 series of the BBC dance show while pregnant.

While the dancer describes motherhood as “a bag of emotions”, she also said it is “the happiest” she has ever been.

However, there is one memory she will never forget – the painful ordeal she went through when she underwent an emergency C-section.

“I was hoping to have a natural birth, but it didn’t work out that way. I was frightened of not being able to feel my legs. It was scary and I didn’t think about the recovery at the time,” she shared with The Sun.

Dianne explained that during her recovery, there were times when she could not even get out of bed without help, relying on Joe to support her.

Recalling a particular moment in the middle of the night when she needed to go to the toilet, she told the publication: “I had to wake Joe and say, ‘Please come and get me,’ because I physically couldn’t use my stomach to get out of bed.

“I remember crying in his arms because I was in so much pain.”

However, she said the experience has not put her off having another baby in the future.

With her family based in her native Australia, Dianne revealed that some of her relatives are yet to meet Bowie, although she is looking forward to spending Christmas there with them.

This will come after she competes in the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Viewers will learn which professional dancers will be paired with the celebrities during the launch show on September 19.

Last year, the dancer performed with her fellow Aussie and Neighbours star Stefan Dennis. She lifted the Glitterball Trophy for the first time in 2024 with comedian Chris McCausland.
