Vernon Kay has hailed Chris Packham as “one of the best” as he weighed in on the naturalist after his clash with Jeremy Clarkson. Vernon’s remarks came as he discussed the TV presenter’s new five-part BBC Two series, Evolution. Vernon called it “cracking” after tuning in to the show alongside Paddy McGuinness for the forthcoming episode of Celebrity Gogglebox.
Vernon appears on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside the Take Me Out star, as does Chris and his stepdaughter, Megan McCubbin. However, it seems not everyone is such a fan of the Springwatch favourite, though, as Jeremy Clarkson hit out at comments Chris made about his Amazon Prime series, Clarkson’s Farm, during last Friday’s episode of Celebrity Gogglebox.

Among his criticisms, Chris said the representation of Diddly Squat Farm on the series is “not what a farm looks like”, adding that most are sprayed with “deadly chemicals”, with animals kept “indoors in crates”. In response, Clarkson dismissed Chris’ remarks as “b******s”.
Away from the drama, however, Vernon had nothing but praise for Chris. Speaking on BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday (July 15), He said: “Paddy and I did Gogglebox for this Friday – it’s on this Friday – and there’s a nature programme with Chris Packham, and he talks about evolution. That’s what his programme is about; it’s about evolution.
“And he talks about where we all stem from, and one cell is the key to our life, all life; fascinating. Yeah, it’s worth a watch. I mean, Paddy and I were like, ‘Get out – no way!’

“I couldn’t believe I was related to him, I’ll be honest with you. We’re all related to each other. It’s cracking. It’s a great show. Chris Packham – one of the best, isn’t he?”
Meanwhile, Clarkson has taken a different stance on the naturalist. In response to Chris’ claims, Clarkson wrote in his column for The Sun:”The endlessly angry Chris Packham went on Gogglebox this week and erupted in blind fury about the Winnie the Pooh-ish opening credits to my farming programme.

“‘That’s not what a farm looks like’, he fumed. No, Chris. It’s a drawing. But he wasn’t finished. ‘Most farms are horrible monocultures which have been sprayed with deadly chemicals . . . the ground has been pumped full of fertiliser and most of the animals are indoors, in crates, being crushed and kept in the dark.'”
He went on to claim that Chris was aware that it was “b******s”, as he’d visited Diddly Squat Farm in 2012, where he “spent the day in our woods, foraging and bird watching”.
Clarkson then pointed out that if there had indeed been animals getting “crushed” in a crate, he was sure that the nature-lover would’ve spotted it and “said something”.
The former Top Gear star’s farming co-star, Harriet Cowan, also shared her views about the saga on TikTok. She said: “Chris Packham. Maybe before throwing shade at all farmers, research your facts. What world are you living in?”
