Chuck Russell has sadly d!ed at the age of 74. The Hollywood legend directed several box office hits in his decades-long career including A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob and The Mask. In 2002, his film The Scorpion King featured The Rock in his first leading role.
His family told TMZ he d!ed unexpectedly at his property in San Diego. The local fire department reportedly responded to calls of an unconscious male at the property on Wednesday afternoon. His loved ones are understood to be flying to California to find out how the beloved star d!ed. His d3ath was confirmed by his attorney to Variety; a cause of d3ath has not been confirmed.

Born in Chicago, Illnois in 1952, Chuck began his career in his twenties when he became a production manager and assistant director and worked across numerous independent films.
During that time, he wrote screenplays and when he worked as an executive producer, on 1981’s Hell Night, which starred Linda Blair of The Exorcist fame, he met Frank Darabont, a frequent collaborator.
His directorial debut came with A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors in 1987, which Chuck also wrote.

After the 1988 remake of the cult B-movie The Blob, Chuck found huge success with The Mask, the 1994 blockbuster, where he worked alongside Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz.

“New Line wanted another shocking horror film,” Chuck said in 2024. “There was a comic book of The Mask that was quite terrifying. I said it’s going to be too much like Freddy Krueger. It’s going to be horrible.”
The film grossed more than $350m on an $18m production budget.
In 2002, he directed The Scorpion King, a spin-off to the popular The Mummy adventure films.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 19 years, Ania, and three children Logan, Riley and Carlyn.
