Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have done the right thing for Archie and Lilibet by moving back to the UK. Yes, I said what I said. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children, flew back to Britain last week.

Their private jet landed at Birmingham Airport, and they were swiftly whisked away, with their belongings, to their new private UK home. Where is it? Well, that is unconfirmed. And really, it doesn’t make a difference. Because just by being back in his home country, I think Harry and Meghan have made the right choice for the sake of their children. Prince Archie is seven now, and Princess Lilibet is five. These are the ages when the key memories of their childhood are likely to be made. And while life in Montecito looked like a dream, with sunshine and sandy beaches, and a massive mansion, it had one thing missing.

Besides having their parents and their grandmother Doria in Montecito, Lilibet and Archie didn’t have some of the most important family members a child should have while growing up – cousins.

Archie and Lilibet weren't previously known as prince and princess.

This is because the cousins they should be closest to, yet have no real relationship with as of yet, were thousands of miles away from America and living across the pond.

Now that Archie and Lilibet are back in the UK, the relationship could change. Instead of not knowing each other, Archie and Lilibet could form a real relationship with their fellow royal cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

They could enjoy childhood together, whether that be running around Balmoral, spending Christmas at Sandringham, or simply the small moments that many of us shared with our cousins growing up.

They could form a bond with the only other younger royals who may really understand what life in the spotlight as a grandchild of King Charles is like. However, while this all sounds great on paper, it’s going to take a lot to make it a reality.

And really, the power lies with Prince William, who has been estranged from Prince Harry for some time. This estrangement has seen William and Harry lose contact, which of course has had repercussions.

It means that their children have hardly seen each other, and have not been able to enjoy growing up together. It’s a real shame. I mean, look at the close relationship William and Harry had with their own cousins. Surely they want this closeness for their own children?

While Harry has expressed a desire to reconcile with his older brother before, William still remains stubborn to the prospect of a reconciliation. We can’t really blame him. But if I’m honest, I think sooner or later some sort of peace deal should be made between the warring brothers for the sake of their children, and the relationship they all have with one another.

Only once the brothers are talking and the cousins get to know each other, do I think Archie and Lilibet will really see the real benefits that living in the UK can bring them. Family can be, after all, so important. And you only really get one.
