Several of Today’s most popular hosts have suffered major wardrobe malfunctions on-air. Of course, Savannah Guthrie and her costars handled the blips like total pros, proving why they are the faces of one of the most popular daytime programs.
During an August 2022 episode of Today, Savannah wore a white blouse with black stripes on it during the broadcast. She carried on her hosting duties as normal, sitting with Hoda Kotb, Al Roker and Craig Melvin on the couch and later joined them at the news desk. It wasn’t until after the episode when she headed backstage that she realized something was off with her outfit.
“Realizing you wore your shirt backward all morning. #Monday,” the news anchor captioned a photo posted on her Instagram Story. In the picture, Savannah held up the tag of her shirt to show that she accidentally wore it the wrong way.

Hoda Kotb Suffered a Wardrobe Malfunction at the Olympics
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Hoda didn’t let her little wardrobe malfunction get her down. She posted a video on Instagram to reveal that she needed to use a stapler to staple a part of her dress while behind-the-scenes on Today. A crew member helped her get her dress back in tact. They then covered the stapled part of her dress with her belt.
“Wardrobe malfunction— nothing that a stapler cant fix! Thx @kaitlinvictory,” Hoda captioned the post.

Hoda Kotb Felt Uncomfortable in Her Outfit
During an episode of Today in July 2024, Hoda admitted she wasn’t feeling too great with the outfit she chose during an episode with Jenna Bush Hager.
“The bra’s not working. The outfit doesn’t work. The bra’s too big, the straps are too small. I can’t do it. You know when you wear a dress that you shouldn’t wear it,” the longtime broadcaster told her colleague.
“You know when you’re like, ‘Everything’s hanging out. It’s not right.’ But you know what, I just decided I’m going to do it,” she added. “Have you ever gone to a party and gone, ‘It’s fine.’ And then you spend the whole party pulling and shoving and stuffing? It’s not good.”
Jenna chimed in to say, “Free your boobs, Hoda. It’s time. At this point in your life when you’re turning almost 60, free your boobs. Let’s free them. You want me to take your bra off for you?”
Hoda ended up keeping the outfit on for the remainder of the episode, rejecting Jenna’s offer to take her bra off.

Hoda’s Got Something on Her Pants!
During a May 2024 episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna, Jenna Bush Hager pointed out a security tag that was stuck to Hoda’s pants.
“OK, so you’re sitting with your friend. You’re hosting a television show as some do. And you look down and you notice that your friend has something on her pants and you wonder, ‘Shall I tell her quietly? Or should I just scream it to the world?’” the former first daughter told her colleague. “Hoda, it seems as though you either stole those pants or they forgot to take off the security tag.”
Hoda explained that she tried her best to remove the tag but it would not come off.
“We tried to pry it off with pliers, etc, and it doesn’t work,” the Hope Is a Rainbow author said. “I will have you know that I went through the 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. [hours of Today] without anyone noticing.”
Ultimately, she decided to rock the pants anyway, hoping that the tag would not be too noticeable against the busy paisley print.
“Well, they may not be paying attention to you the way I’m paying attention to you. I will say, you’re in the flow so much so that you don’t even care,” Jenna responded.
“I don’t care, I don’t care,” Hoda concluded, proving that she is the queen of making it work!

Savannah Guthrie’s Backwards Blunder
Wearing her shirt backward during an August 2022 broadcast actually wasn’t the first time that’s happened to the longtime host. She has admitted to wearing clothes inside out and backward in several posts on Instagram over the years.
Before another episode of Today that same month, Savannah admitted she “overslept big time” and nearly missed the broadcast. She documented her trip to the studio for her 7 a.m. show on Instagram, getting to the set with just minutes to spare. The legal analyst gave a shout-out to the “miracle workers” behind-the-scenes. They helped do her hair and makeup before she joined Craig at the news desk right on time to do the local news.
Hoda had the day off, leading Craig to poke fun at his cohost who nearly slept through the show that morning. The Dateline anchor himself famously almost missed a broadcast in October 2022 while eating a slice of pizza backstage.
“You almost had the morning off as well,” Craig said on the episode, adding, “Savannah Guthrie rolled in about 15 minutes ago. She overslept! She is normal!”

The Microphone Mishap
In May 2020, Savannah noticeably tugged at her shirt during a live shot. After making a number of funny faces at the camera, Hoda confronted her costar to ask what was wrong.
“Right before we came on, my mic, which was right here, dropped down my shirt and I knew I was supposed to read the intro, so I just made a decision to reach out and get it,” Savannah said. “It was all very innocent!”

Savannah’s Dress Dilemma
Savannah sparked a movement of people showing off their wardrobe malfunctions on Twitter in January 2020. The social media trend came after she wore a red dress backward on air, something she blamed on her early call time. The mom of two turned her collar inside out so that she could show Hoda and Craig that her outfit was on the wrong way.

Jenna Bush Hager’s Backstage Antics
The Today wardrobe crew proved to be equipped for anything when Jenna Bush Hager spilled coffee on her dress less than two minutes before showtime. Hoda shared a video on Instagram of several crew members trying to get the stains out of her cohost’s pale blue outfit with hair dryers and napkins before she went in front of the camera. They prevailed and the show went off without a hitch!

A Stranger Came to Jenna’s Rescue
The coffee incident wasn’t the only time Jenna and Hoda talked about wardrobe malfunctions with their fans. During a road trip with her twin sister, Barbara Bush, to promote their book The Superpower of Sisterhood, the zipper on Jenna’s pants popped. She initially didn’t think it would be that big of a deal until the siblings stopped for a bathroom break.
“I’m going to the bathroom, and I go ‘Barbara, I can’t get out of my pants,’” the former first daughter confessed during a May 2022 episode of Today. “We drove for four hours. I was dying … A woman in the stall goes, ‘Honey, you can’t get out of your pants? Hold on one minute, I got pliers in my car.’”
After a quick trip to her car, the woman came back with the pliers and cut Jenna out of the pants. “She fixed it right away,” she added. “I was laughing hysterically.”

Natalie Morales Split Her Pants
Former Today host Natalie Morales suffered a huge wardrobe malfunction at the Vancouver Olympics that she’ll never forget.
“It’s wet out and cold and I was wearing black suede pants and I guess they got a little humid and stretched out a little bit and let’s just say the back split right down…” she trailed off during the October 2015 conversation with Tamron Hall and Willie Geist.
Thankfully, a member of the Today wardrobe team was able to cover up the split with black duct tape, which Natalie now thinks is the “best invention ever.”

Jenna Had a Bit of a Spill
While attempting the trend of “splitting the G” with Willie Geist during a 2025 St. Patrick’s Day episode of Today With Jenna & Friends, Jenna ended up spilling Guinness on her dress.
“Oh no!” Willie said after Jenna spilled the beer. “Does anyone have a mop or a tarp we can put down? Let’s help you out here. Oh, Jenna.”
“My body couldn’t take it. My body just rejected that. Unfortunately, I ruined my nice green dress,” the former first daughter said of the mishap.
