Strahan, who’s a Good Morning America anchor, grew up with his parents, father Gene and mother Louise, and five brothers and sisters.
While he was a child, the family had a pet pig, but the animal’s fate was only revealed just a few years ago.
“I went to shoot with his parents before his father di3d because I wanted … to give him time with his parents, as one of [six] children where they just talked about him,” Strahan’s ex-GMA co-anchor Sara Haines shared during The Weekend View on Saturday about the sit-down.
During that TV segment, Haines learned that Strahan’s pet would be ultimately eaten by the family.
“They shared with me that they ate the pig,” the 47-year-old said.
“I come back and I’m giving Michael a hard time, as one would, and I joked about the pig,” Haines recalled, not realizing that Strahan didn’t know about the pig’s fate.
“And he’s like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He didn’t know.
“He didn’t know cause they were all young.
Strahan then confronted his mother after learning about the secret.
“He was like, ‘I had no idea. ‘ And he called his mom,” Haines said.

“And I was like, ‘ I didn’t mean to betray the family trust!
“I just thought you told him!'”
Strahan revealed the sad news that his dad di3d in 2020.
At the time, the GMA cast gave a touching tribute to Gene on live TV.
“We wanted to take a moment to say our thoughts and prayers are with our colleague Michael Strahan and his family,” Strahan’s former co-host Amy Robach said.

“His father, Gene Willie Strahan Sr., is being laid to rest today.
” … To Michael, Louise, and the entire Strahan family, we want you to know our hearts are with you today. We love yo,u Michael.”
Strahan sent a message to his mom on her 82nd birthday in January, writing on Instagram, “Happy birthday to my favorite person.
“… I’m lucky to have you as my mom and love you endlessly. Your baby boy Michael.”

Strahan is the dad to 33-year-old daughter Tanita and son Michael Jr., 31, with his first wife, Wanda.
The NFL Hall of Famer also shares 20-year-old twin daughters, Isabella and Sophia, with his second ex-wife, Jean Muggli.
