The 2025 Winter Champions Wildcard Tournament continued on Thursday with returning winners from past games coming back to try to extend their Jeopardy! resume.

Joey won two games during season 41 and already accumulated $46,698.

The development engineer from Raleigh, North Carolina was joined by Eamonn Campbell, a lawyer originally from Manchester, Vermont and Mehal Shah, a software engineer from Seattle, Washington.

On the very first clue of the game, Joey came out swinging as it turned out to be a Daily Double.

Under the “History” category, host Ken read the clue: “Before a papal tribunal in 1633, he stated, ‘I abjure, curse & detest the aforesaid errors.’”

He correctly answered “Who was Galileo?” – adding $1,000 to his total from the jump.

Going into the Double Jeopardy! round, Mehal had made some quick-witted responses to secure the lead with $6,600.

Joey was in second with $6,200 while Eamonn remained in third with $2,800.

Ken then introduced the next round of categories – which led to Joey admitting his “embarrassing” mistake.

“SHORT STORIES, COMMON BANDS, TRAVEL USA, THE JETÉ SET, MAKE MINE MATH, MORE OR LESS,” the categories for today’s game were revealed.

However, it was one category in particular that led to some confusion for the returning champ in the middle of the game.

After the episode aired, Joey went online to share some behind-the-scenes secrets from his time on the Alex Trebek stage.

“Embarrassingly, we were about three clues into the category before I realized ‘The Jeté Set’ was about ballet, and not just asking about random French words,” he wrote.

He went on to share more of his thoughts about the game and paid respects to his competitors.

“Nothing but respect for Mehal and Eamonn in this game. Two tremendous competitors (and more importantly, great people) that I enjoyed getting to know both during our sequestration in the morning and later on after this game.

“Fun fact: We spent most of our sequestration time playing Contact and watching The Princess Bride in the Wheel of Fortune green room – a true crowd-pleaser.

“Going into Final, I felt very good about not needing to bet much to get a wildcard spot, even if Mehal surpassed me to win the game.

“But the wager depended on the category. When I saw ‘Trees,’ I couldn’t bet $0 fast enough,” Joey wrote.

Everyone had the same response of “What is Laurel?” – and all three players were wrong in failing to guess “What is Palm?”

RISKY BUSINESS

Due to Joey’s smart thinking of betting $0, he remained in the lead, ending the game with $24,000.

Mehal was in second with $19,600 while Eamonn gave everything he had but ended with $0.

Joey provided another on-set secret when he revealed that the last clue was so tough, Ken was even stumped.

“First thing Ken said as the credits started to roll was that FJ was tough, and he didn’t know it either.

“I can’t tell you how much better that made me feel,” he said in his post-game thoughts.

Joey’s win advances him to the Wildcards semifinals as tomorrow will be the last quarterfinals of the tournament.

However, as both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune shut down filming this week due to the Los Angeles wildfires, it’s unclear if future airings will also be delayed.

Those who were given tickets to attend Jeopardy! tapings for this week were sent a message that alerted them the filming has been shut down due to the LA wildfires.

“Due to the severe weather conditions and out of an abundance of caution and safety for all, all of next week’s Jeopardy show tapings have unfortunately been canceled.

“This tournament will likely move; however, we have not been given any information about new dates as of yet.

“We do hope to see you in the future at a taping of Jeopardy! We apologize for the inconvenience, but hope everyone stays safe,” a memo sent out to attendees said.

Additionally, a source confirmed that sister show Wheel of Fortune, which films on the soundstage directly next to Jeopardy! on the same Sony Studios lot in Culver City, CA, will not be filming this week.

“Every Wheel and Jeopardy taping has been canceled this week. The current tournaments will be delayed and air dates will be delayed.

“There are no new dates set in place yet but everyone is actively doing as much as they can,” the insider said.

The Invitational Tournament taping was scheduled to tape on Wednesday the 15th, Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th of January.

The Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City has not yet been evacuated as of Monday morning due to the fires.

However, the lot is just south of the Pacific Palisades – where over 40,000 acres have burned through neighborhoods and nature as the blaze sits at just 15% containment at the time of writing this post.

As nearly every person who resides in Los Angeles has been impacted to some degree by this week’s tragedy, it is also presumed that crew members who work for the show are currently suffering and may not be able to report to work.

On Friday’s game, the lawyer from Brooklyn went up against Will Weiss, a technical program manager from Islip, New York and Marko Saric, a math professor from Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Despite Marko quickly adding $1,000 to his score after finding the first Daily Double, it was Adam who secured an early lead.

Heading into the first break, the attorney accumulated $5,000 while Marko was in second with $3,800 and Will stayed in third with $1,400.

Though Adam had quick buzzer reactions and witty gameplay, Marko was able to find – and correctly guess – all three Daily Doubles.

Under the $1,600 category “Physical Science,” host Ken Jennings read the clue: “It’s the separation of waves according to their wavelength, as in a rainbow; also, what police may want a crowd to do, meaning scattering.”

“What is dispersion?” Marko correctly responded – adding $4,500 to his total.

Right after, he rounded out the trip of Daily Doubles under the $1,200 clue in Total Drama.

“Characters in this 4-act play include Judge Hathorne, Giles Corey & Tituba,” Ken read.

“What is The Crucible?” Mark replied – adding another $2,700 to his total.

Heading into Final Jeopardy!, Mark had overtaken the lead with $24,400 – though Adam still had an impressive prize pot of his own with $18,600.

Will had remained in third throughout the game and had $5,400 going into the last round.

Ken, 50, revealed the final category to be “Historic Statements” as the players placed their wagers.

Marko, having had the lead, wisely bet $0 and ended his game with $24,400 – advancing him to the semifinals of the tournament.

Though Adam would need to depend on Marko making a mistake to win, he was in good standing to continue on in the tournament with a wildcard spot with his total of over $18k.

However, he decided to go big and bet his entire $18,600 – leaving him with just $0 and squashing any chance he had of moving forward.

“Presence on this list does NOT guarantee an invitation to compete. Other eligibility rules apply and final selection is up to the producers’ sole discretion.”

Will also bet it all and finished the game tied in third place with $0.

For the Jeopardy! Champions Wildcard Tournament, in addition to all five winners, the top four non-winners with the highest money totals will advance to the semifinals.

Fans were shocked at Adam’s decision given he had such a good shot of continuing his Jeopardy! run before the final round.

‘WHY ADAM, WHY?!’

“Why bet anything Adam, let alone EVERYTHING????” a fan exclaimed, to which someone else responded: “I know. He could have at least one of the wildcard spots. His scores was high enough.”

Another agreed: “So glad to see Marko win today! That being said, I can’t help but wonder why Adam made the all in FJ wager.

“I feel like a score of 18600 almost guarantees you a wildcard spot so going for the W at such a risk was quite confusing. I’d imagine Paul must have been surprised after he found out his score of 8000 was enough to move on.”

A third chimed in with some strategic advice: “Adam’s wager made no sense at all.

“If 18600 still fell uncomfortable for whatever reason to Adam, I would have bet 2000 because in that case, he could potentially have 20600 at the end which is a guaranteed wildcard spot no matter what.

“And if he had gotten it wrong, 16800 is also a shoo in for a wildcard as well.”

Another surprised viewer added: “Historically, I don’t think anyone has been eliminated from gaining a Wild Card spot with 18,000, pre-doubled or not.

Drew has garnered a passionate fanbase that has only continued to grow as season 41 continues and viewers were hoping he’d make it all the way in the postseason to the Tournament of Champions.

For Thursday’s game, the journalist from Hawaii went up against returning champs Mehal Shah, a software engineer from Seattle, Washington and Will Yancey, a lecturer of history from Banquete, Texas.

Drew, Mehal and Will all earned their spots in the two-day finals after dominating the preliminaries and semifinals of the tournament.

To kick things off, Will wagered $1,000 on the first Daily Double of the game under “Our Colorful World.”

After betting $12,000, he secured the largest amount of points heading into tomorrow grand finale by winning with $27,200.

Drew pushed up to second with $17,600 while Will dropped to third with $5,600.

Jeopardy! Contestant Rules

Passing Jeopardy!’s online Anytime Test is hard enough, but there are also many rules players must follow once they make it to the stage:

The returning champion is always at the leftmost podium and keeps playing until they lose.
Contestants don’t have to say “who is” or “what is” in the first round but must do so in Double Jeopardy! and Final Jeopardy.
Contestants can change their responses as long as Ken Jennings or the judges haven’t made a ruling.
The minimum wager for a Daily Double is $5. The minimum wager for Final Jeopardy! is $0.
Written responses in Final Jeopardy! do not have to be spelled correctly, but they must be phonetically correct (the judges decide this).
If there’s a tie after Final Jeopardy, the tied players enter a bonus clue shootout, and whoever buzzes in first correctly wins.
If all three contestants wager everything in Final Jeopardy! and are incorrect, leaving them with $0, there will be no returning champion (it’s happened before—six times).

Though Drew’s Jeopardy! journey is still not over as he can make a comeback tomorrow, fans were still disappointed he lost while praising Mehal for his gameplay.

“Nooooo Drew I was rooting for you! I’m glad he still has a chance tomorrow,” one viewer wrote.

Another said: “Between three players who have had ample time to get used to buzzing in at the right time, Drew got the short end of the stick, but the FJ get and his past dominant games could indicate a big comeback tomorrow.

“Will’s not out of this either: if he was able to find all three DDs in this game, it’s certainly not impossible that he could repeat that in game two. Anything could happen tomorrow, basically!”

Sapp, a pro football Hall of Famer, was arrested in Okeechobee, Florida, in 2024, apparently for no reason, and is now taking said department to task.

While details of the arrest were not made available, Sapp posted a video to social media showing the incident. The footage suggests that he and others had stopped to protest after the authorities pulled a young man over for speeding. It appears they believed that the driver was being falsely accused.

One of the officers asked Sapp to keep quiet, telling him he was obstructing justice. Sapp shot back by pointing out that he had freedom of speech and wasn’t physically interfering. The officer eventually lost his patience and put handcuffs on the former defensive tackle, letting him know he was being detained.

He stated that some of them had told him that their white girlfriend looked up to Taylor Swift while their girlfriend looked up to Megan The Stallion. He then states the guy asks how many white women he has seen doing the Megan Thee Stallion challenge as opposed to Black women.

He then dove into another story of a friend who relayed that his Black girlfriend started to request money from him as soon as she found out about his NIL money. She wanted her hair and nails done. He then added that the Black women would be upset if they went to places like Chipotle, and she demanded steak houses.
