Live on BBC Breakfast: Charlie Stayt’s ICY WORDS leave Naga Munchetty lost for words!

Naga Munchetty was scolded by Charlie Stayt live on BBC Breakfast for ‘bringing the tone d0wn’ with a ‘m3an and awkward’ swipe at a co-star – YEARS before the b::lly1ng pr0be came to light.

The morning programme, which hit our screens in 2000, has hit headlines in recent weeks as a number of those working on the sh0w has come under criticism, including Naga and editor Richard Frediani.

And n0w a clip, that came years before the b::lly1ng r0w, has sh0wn an awkward segment between the stars of the sh0w.

In an episode, which aired on July 15 2022, Naga was joined by Charlie in the studio as they caught up with the new business presenter Hannah Miller.

Hannah, who had only been part of the team for a number of months, was live from market t0wn Nantwich in Cheshire to chat to an ice cream business 0wner.

She told Naga: ‘I bet you wish you were here’, to which Naga replied: ‘I don’t like ice cream, Hannah.’

After Naga told her co-star she wasn’t a fan of ice cream, Charlie asked: ‘Do you think you rather brought the tone d0wn there by saying?!’ (pictured)

A shocked Hannah replied: ‘You don’t like ice cream?!’

Naga confessed: ‘If I had to eat an ice cream for the rest of my life it would be pistachio flavour, but I don’t like cold food.’

Hannah was keen to find out what she is a fan of, asking: ‘Do you like br0wnies?’

‘Mm, not sure much,’ Naga awkwardly replied. ‘But you kn0w, we’ll get to kn0w each other! You’ll find out Charlie likes ice cream.’

Hannah told her: ‘I won’t be bringing br0wnies into the office then…’

As they returned to the studio, Naga told Charlie: ‘Imagine that. What’s your job? Oh I’ve got to be sent to an ice cream factory and you actually like an ice cream parlour.’

Charlie replied: ‘Do you think you rather brought the tone d0wn there?!’

‘Oh be quiet!’ Naga said back. ‘I apologise…’

Charlie trailed off: ‘Hannah was working hard, doing the story and then…’

It comes after BBC Breakfast bosses were reportedly forced to apologise to Geri Halliwell-Horner after a very awkward interview with Naga and Charlie.

During the awkward resurfaced interview from October 2023, Naga, caught the Spice Girl off guard as she asked: ‘Do you not like being interviewed?’

After the segment ended, Geri, 52, allegedly said she did not want to appear on the sh0w opposite the pair ever again.

The claims emerged amid total chaos at BBC Breakfast – and a p0wer struggle between bosses and presenters described by one source as being like ‘The Hunger Games’.

Its editor Richard Frediani has taken an extended period of leave amid claims he is too tough. There are also allegations that Naga and Charlie have fallen out.

When Munchetty and Stayt interviewed Geri almost two years ago, viewers were shocked h0w awkward it was.

Naga pr0bed Geri on whether she had ‘researched’ them before the interview, while Charlie accused her of ‘pointing her finger’ a lot during the chat.

During the discussion, Naga said: ‘Do you kn0w what, you’re very interesting as an interviewee. You’ve come in, making sure you’ve done your research on us as well haven’t you?’

Geri insisted it was the ‘polite thing to do’, before Charlie jumped in, and said: ‘Also, you point your finger quite a lot, to be honest.’

Shocked, she replied: ‘Is that rude?! I’m so sorry Charlie.’ Naga then bluntly said: ‘Do you not like being interviewed?’

N0w it has emerged that the BBC later gave Geri an apology.

It comes as BBC Breakfast staff defended their ‘overwhelmingly loved’ boss under fire from Naga – and claimed ‘he’s not a bully at all and the truth will come out’

A source has told The Sun: ‘Everyone noticed the interview was becoming quite awkward and then when Geri referenced Naga’s life directly things got really frosty.

‘Geri isn’t used to that kind of approach and felt ambushed, it unnerved her.

‘A few people apologised afterwards for Naga being a c0w to her and then Geri made it clear she didn’t want to be interviewed by them again in future.’

MailOnline have contacted BBC representatives for comment.

At the time Geri appeared on the breakfast sh0w to promote her latest novel and was outlining the ‘rules’ behind her drive.

She began: ‘First rule: have courage, take the chance you fear the most,’ pointing at Naga she added ‘which you did.’

The interview came just days after Naga had appeared before MPs to say she was ‘never taken seriously’ by doctors over her uterus condition.

Geri then continued: ‘Second rule, united we stand, we need each other. Third rule, never give up, be of service, be useful. Fourth rule, if you don’t like these rules, make up your 0wn.’

It was revealed last week that under-fire editor Richard Frediani (pictured) has reportedly taken an extended period of leave, after an internal review of b::lly1ng and misconduct allegations was opened into the sh0w

It comes as BBC Breakfast staff defended their ‘overwhelmingly loved’ boss under fire from Naga – and claimed ‘he’s not a bully at all and the truth will come out’.

It was revealed last week that editor Richard Frediani has reportedly taken an extended period of leave, after an internal review of b::lly1ng and misconduct allegations was opened into the sh0w.

It was previously claimed that the sh0w’s staff are feeling increasingly ‘uneasy’ around Frediani, and just last week it was claimed that Naga and other presenters no longer speak to their ‘loathed’ boss.

But n0w some have rushed to defend Frediani.

One of those members of staff told The Mirror: ‘He is not a bully at all and the truth will come out.

‘He’s a great boss and was – and is still – overwhelmingly loved by the team, who respect his drive, expertise, and journalistic ambition.

‘He has delivered great audiences and the first ever Bafta for Breakfast. He can be brash and opinionated but works so hard for his team and all0ws people to flourish.’

Another said: ‘Yes, he is old-school and can rub people up the wrong way but it’s always in the pursuit of great television.

‘It’s the best-rating breakfast sh0w in the country – it’s not supposed to be a walk in the park.

‘Some – Naga included – need to understand this. It feels like it’s a case of presenter p0wer turfing out a brilliant journalist.’

A BBC spokesperson said: ‘While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.’

Last week the BBC have reportedly launched a b::lly1ng pr0be into BBC Breakfast, which has been branded ‘toxic’ behind the scenes in the latest crisis for the corporation.

Back in April, MailOnline exclusively revealed some staff had expressed unhappiness with the sh0w’s editor Richard Frediani, accusing him of being on occasion ‘aggr3ssive’ and ‘belittling’ t0wards his underlings.

Should the BBC have aplogised to Geri?

N0w, tensions are said to be ‘rife’ between hosts and Charlie and Naga, who has already expressed her uneasiness about Frediani’s behaviour, with the pr0be said to have left the newsroom ‘divided’.

A source told The Sun at the time: ‘To the viewer BBC Breakfast is a warm, gentle programme, one that is flourishing in the ratings. But beyond the cosy red sofa it is a very different picture.

‘Several people — crew, production and even presenters — have been very unhappy’.

‘Tension between Charlie and Naga is rife.

‘Fredi is very old-school and has some slightly tyrannical tendencies.

‘He is very cerebral but also quite aggr3ssive in his methods. Some people think a recent promotion has gone to his head’.

‘Meanwhile, Naga, who is passionate about speaking up if she believes something is wrong, has spoken to people who are unhappy.

‘Formal complaints have been lodged, so the BBC has to be seen to act.

‘The pr0be has really divided the newsroom’.

More recently BBC Breakfast staff have reportedly compared the studio to ‘the Hunger Games’ after an internal review of b::lly1ng and misconduct allegations was opened into the sh0w.

BBC Breakfast has been on our screens since 2000 and Fredani joined the sh0w in 2019.

SH0CKING – Holly Willoughby had to CLEAN the Toilet herself at Glastonbury, leaving fans stunned – What happened?

Holly Willoughby got into the festival spirit as she milled around Glastonbury with a drink in hand on Friday.

The TV presenter, 44, has been a longtime regular at the hotly anticipated music festival and arrived at Worthy Farm in style after jetting in from London Heliport.

After disembarking the helicopter, Holly wasted no time kickstarting the three-day spectacular in Somerset, as she strolled around the grounds with a friend.

She looked effortlessly stylish for the outing as she sported a white mini dress and lace overlay from Free People, which costs £158.

The mother-of-three paired her boho chic dress with the matching cardigan with frilled sleeves and kept comfortable in a pair of brown lace-up Grenson boots.

Holly toted her essentials in a suede-look fringed handbag and pushed a large suitcase alongside her as she got ready for the festival fun.

The former This Morning host completed her ensemble with a pair of black shades and a wide-brimmed brown hat.

She appeared to be in jovial spirits as she flashed a huge smile as she joined hundreds of thousands of people in heading to Glastonbury.

Glastonbury 2025 is set to be another star-studded affair with Rod Stewart, Olivia Rodrigo, Neil Young, The 1975, Nile Rodgers and Noah Kahan all set to perform.

Lewis Capaldi is also rumoured to be taking to the stage at Glastonbury for a secret set after releasing his brand new single, Survive.

The powerful track is the Scottish singer’s first offering following a two-year career hiatus due to his battle with Tourettes.

There have been reports that Lewis’ new song will coincide with his big stage return at Glastonbury, two years after he broke down on-stage at the festival.

Following his emotional set at Worthy Farm in June 2023, the singer, 28, took time off to focus on his mental health and to ‘adjust to the impact’ of his Tourette’s diagnosis.

Yet earlier this month, The Mail on Sunday revealed that Lewis was set to return to the spotlight with a performance at this year’s festival, in the ‘secret slot’ on Friday at the Pyramid Stage after Alanis Morissette.

And now it has been claimed that the Scottish star will release his first single since he dropped Strangers and A Cure For Minds Unwell in January last year, to coincide with his Glastonbury set.

Are YOU a fan of Holly’s Glastonbury look?

During his last performance at Glastonbury two years ago, Lewis was coming out of a three-week mental health hiatus he had taken to ‘rest and recover’.

Returning to the stage, the singer admitted he had been ‘s**t scr3d’ to perform as he opened up about his mental health struggles and battle with Tourette’s.

The neurological condition is characterised by a combination of involuntary noises and movements called tics, and can cause speech and voice abnormalities.

In the middle of his set, Lewis confessed that he was struggling with his Tourette’s and said his voice had ‘packed it in’, after coughing throughout the show.

However, his supportive fans rallied around him, with the show coming to an heartwarming close as the supportive crowd sang out his hit Someone You Love at the top of their voices.

Lewis emotionally left the stage, saying: ‘Glastonbury, I’m really sorry. I’m a bit annoyed with myself.’

Afterwards, he announced he would be ‘taking a break for the foreseeable future’ as it was ‘obvious’ he needs to spend ‘much more time getting my mental and physical health in order’.

The hitmaker, who had been due to embark upon a world tour, explained he needed time to ‘adjust to the impact’ of living with Tourette’s, admitting it was ‘the most difficult [decision] of my life’.

Lewis Capaldi returns to music after two years with a new single Survive following career hiatus

    article image

Lewis had charted his struggles with the condition in a documentary How I’m Feeling Now, which aired in April 2023, two months before his breakdown at Glastonbury.

Earlier this year, Holly gave an insight into her past years at Glastonbury as she revealed she spent one night scrubbing a toilet at the festival.

She shared the story of a toilet clean-up fiasco on The Graham Norton Show in February, where she was joined by music icon Sir Elton John.

She explained how, after watching Elton’s headline performance at Glastonbury 2024, she found herself in the festival’s infamous, long toilet queues.

When she finally entered a cubicle, she was met with a grim sight.

Holly said: ‘I was there and was having the time of my life. You [Elton] were incredible. Everyone knew you were going to be amazing but honestly it was magic.

‘Everyone was singing and it was like the crowd was moving as one, I’d never seen anything like it.’

She added: ‘Elton was the highlight, but then everyone moved towards the loos. After his set, the loos were chaos. It was disgusting, but when you’ve got to go you’ve got to go.

‘I was standing on the loo – you would not want to sit down – and I thought, “Oh my god, when I come out of here, whoever comes in next will think that was me so I can’t leave that.”

‘I’ve always got a bag of wet wipes on me, so I cleaned that loo until it was spotless. It was perfect. I was back down to earth with a bump after Elton.’

Meanwhile series Producer Iain MacLeod said: ‘Everyone will be really gutted to see Adam go! He’s a top bloke and a really talented actor.

‘But he’s given us a lot of notice, so we’ve been able to prepare a huge exit story for him.

The actor had previously revealed that he had been in pain every single day for two years after also being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

But in a life-changing update earlier this month, the Waterloo Road star told his followers he is at last pain-free thanks to a miraculous biologic injection.

Looking in great spirits, Adam captioned a selfie of himself: ‘These last few weeks… my life completely changed!

‘As some of you know, I’ve been battling psoriatic arthritis for the past 3 years and it’s been tough, Constant pain, constant struggle. But today I can say something I honestly never thought I would… I’m pain free!!

‘Not a bit better, not improving but ZERO pain! None. For the first time in YEARS.

Adam Thomas: I was in so much pain prior to arthritis diagnosis

‘A few weeks ago I had my first biologic injection and it changed my life literally overnight. I know that for most people it can take weeks to work, but for me… it was instant. And I’m still in shock.

‘I mean I know that this is not a cure and I’m still doing all I can to support my body naturally through food, movement, and rest. But this has given me something I haven’t felt in a long time!

‘Now it’s time to rebuild, mentally, physically, emotionally. This next chapter is all about prioritising my wellbeing, becoming the happiest, healthiest version of me… and finally enjoying life again.

    ‘Let’s goo!!!’

The new song has been described as a ‘brutally honest track that addresses mental health challenges of self-doubt and despair’, highlighting the difficult period in his career following his last Glastonbury performance.

It features heartbreaking lyrics including: ‘Most nights I fear that I’m not enough, I’ve had my share of Monday mornings when I can’t get up.’

However, more defiant lines include: ‘I swear to God I’ll survive, if it kls me to, I’m gonna’ get up and try, if it’s the last thing I’ll do.’

Lewis once again teamed up with collaborator Romans for the track, with the songwriter having famously co-wrote Lewis’ megahit Someone You Loved.

‘Not me literally tearing up when I see a post from you again. I’ve missed you, but thank you for putting yourself first. Welcome back.’

Lewis previously announced he would be taking a break away from the spotlight for his mental health, with a source telling The Sun: ‘Lewis took a decent chunk of time away and now he’s ready for his fans to hear what he has been working on.

The insider added that Lewis was ‘raring to go’ after taking a career hiatus to work on his mental and physical health.

They said: ‘Naturally there will always be nerves but he feels confident and assured. He is firing on all cylinders and there’s no doubt this single will go straight to No1, which will give Lewis a massive boost.’

During his last performance at Glastonbury two years ago, Lewis was coming out of a three-week mental health hiatus he had taken to ‘rest and recover’.

The emotional lyrics in Lewis’ new single that touches on his mental health battle

‘Most nights I fear that I’m not enough, I’ve had my share of Monday mornings when I can’t get up.’

‘But when hope is lost. And I come undone, I swear to God I’ll survive, if it kls me to, I’m gonna’ get up and try, if it’s the last thing I’ll do.’

‘I’ve still got something to give, it hurts sometimes. I’m gonna get up and live, until the day that I di3. I swear to God I’ll survive.’

‘How long till it feels like the wound’s finally starting to heal? How long till it feels like I’m more than a spoke in a wheel?’

Returning to the stage, the singer admitted he had been ‘s**t scared’ to perform as he opened up about his mental health struggles and battle against Tourette’s.

I’m a bit annoyed with myself’.

Lewis had charted his struggles with the condition in a documentary How I’m Feeling now, which aired in April 2023, two months before his breakdown at Glastonbury.

But he has teased that he would be back with new music, sharing a New Year’s Eve update in 2023 for fans where he said: ‘I’m really happy to say I’ve noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.

‘For now I’m going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life.

‘I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100% before getting back out there again properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything!

‘These songs mean the world to me and I’d be gutted if I’d not been able to share them. Hope this tides you all over until we can get in a room and sing them together some day very soon!”

Lewis also thanked fans for their support, saying their reaction has been ‘nothing I’ve ever experienced and has made me more excited than ever to return to doing what I love at some point in the not too distant future’.

And last month, he took to the stage for a secret performance at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh last month – the first time he has performed Worthy Farm.

Headliner Tom Walker said Lewis made a ‘last minute’ decision to perform at the low-key gig, and fans were encouraged to ‘stick around’ for a surprise act.

He performed six songs, including his 2019 hit Someone You Loved, at the event, which was to help raise funds for the suicide prevention charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm).

Lewis released his first album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent in 2019, followed by Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent in 2023, which debuted at No 1 with 95,000 sold, making it the fastest-selling album of the year.

“Queen of Glastonbury” Holly Willoughby sparks controversy by flying to Glastonbury by Helicopter – The Reason locals are so Upset!

She has been dubbed the Queen of Glastonbury Festival, having partied there every summer for a decade.

And in true royal fashion, Holly Willoughby touched down on the Worthy Farm site by helicopter yesterday to join more than 200,000 music fans.

But residents of neighbouring Pilton in Somerset are furious at the number of choppers ferrying A-listers over their farms, as one told the Mail: ‘We’ve never seen this many coming into the festival – it’s insane.

‘On Thursday there was a cluster of five, one after the other.

‘It’s getting ridiculous now and quite frankly the organisers need to get a handle on it – it’s so anti-social and not in the spirit of Glasto.’

Setting off from London’s Battersea heliport yesterday, the 44-year-old flew for 50 minutes and was at the festival by 1.30pm.

Helicopter firm Air Charter – which sells return tickets for £13,950 – reckons it saves its celebrity customers up to eight hours per journey compared with driving.

Beaming in the festival’s VIP section, the former This Morning host sported a £365 pair of tan Grenson boots from her own line and a £158 blouse from Free People over a white dress and belt, with a Stetson hat.

Ms Willoughby has previously stayed at the five-star Babington House hotel while attending the event, which is a half-hour drive from the site, and gets a taxi in each day.

Meanwhile, nearby luxury campsite Camp Kerala, which costs £8,000 for five days, shared a picture on social media showing a line of helicopters and Rolls-Royces awaiting VIPs.

With ticket prices at a minimum of £385, the 45-year-old festival has faced growing criticism that it has abandoned its hedonistic roots, and this year was dubbed ‘Butlin’s for the British middle class’.

The Mail approached festival bosses for a comment.

Other celebs spotted at the event so far include Barbie star Margot Robbie, 34, with her producer husband Tom Ackerley, eight months after giving birth to their first child.

Yesterday, moustachioed Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, 48, read out letters from around the world in the Greenpeace area in a feature called ‘Letters Live’.

Meanwhile, thousands of unsuspecting fans were treated to surprise performances from Lewis Capaldi and Lorde yesterday.

He told the crowd: ‘Two years ago I wasn’t sure if I’d ever do this again, but I’m back baby!’

“Canc3r hasn’t let me go” – Jessie J BREAKS DOWN revealing Real Health Struggle, moving fans to Tears!

Jessie J has confirmed that she is not cnc3r free, a day after posting her hopes to be rid of the disease following her mastectomy.

The singer, 37, who underwent surg3ry late last week, said on Friday that her previous post had been ‘misunderstood’ and while she was ‘praying’ for good news, the cnc3r at present had unfortunately not ‘all gone’.

Jessie went on to say that she was awaiting test results and would be taking a week’s break from social media in order to ‘focus on her recovery‘.

Speaking about the misunderstanding she wrote: ‘I posted a list of pros and cons of having breast cnc3r surg3ry. The first pro I put was… the cnc3r has all gone’.

‘This was a positive affirmation NOT a fact. I don’t have my results yet. I added the [fingers crossed emoji] in thinking people would understand and clearly a lot didn’t.

She went on: ‘A weird situation. My fault for not being clearer. But for now I do not have my results after surg3ry which was only 6 nights ago. I pray it will be true soon but the journey of cnc3r isn’t that simple unfortunately’.

Chanan was also seen sweetly kissing her as she prepared to be wheeled down to surg3ry, whilst other clips showed Jessie’s delight when her young son Sky, two, was allowed to visit.

She showed the realities of surg3ry, sharing a look at her surgical drain, which helps with fluid build up whilst in one video she sang to herself whilst she waited to go into surg3ry, singing: ‘I’ve now been at the hospital for six and a half hours.’

NOBODY SAW IT COMING – Warriors SH0CKINGLY SNUB Ryan Nembhard!

After the Warriors opted to move back in the second round of the NBA draft on Thursday, shipping out No. 41 overall for the 52nd and 59th picks, it appeared that just about everyone projected them to be looking in the same direction–scrappy, undersize point guard Ryan Nembhard out of Gonzaga, the brother of Pacers playoff hero Andrew Nembhard.

NBADraft.net projected the Warriors to take Nembhard with the pick, writing, “Golden State moved down from pick 41 to acquire picks 52 and 57, and they use this selection to add a steady hand in Ryan Nembhard. A poised and experienced point guard, Nembhard brings vision, feel, and efficient shooting. He offers a reliable backup option behind Stephen Curry, plays with maturity, keeps the ball moving, and can organize the second-unit offense.”

And across social media the consensus was that Nembhard just felt like a Golden State guy.

One fan wrote, “The Warriors better not draft Ryan Nembhard because they think he will be just as good as his brother.”

Writer Brian O’Keefe added, “Fire up your Steve Kerr four-guard lineup jokes for when the Warriors draft a 6’0″ Ryan Nembhard Nah they actually kinda need a backup PG tbf…”

“Plz draft nembhard @warriors,” another wrote.

Ah, but it was all for naught, as the Warriors ditched the predictions and went their own way on pick No. 52. They chose Australian wing Alex Toohey, a 21-year-old who averaged 11.8 points and 3.8 rebounds last season, playing for Sydney in Australia’s NBL.

The Warriors had another crack at Nembhard when they moved up to No. 56 in a trade with Memphis, picking national champion Will Richard from Florida.

From the NBA.com scouting report on Richard: “Richard is a prototypical 3-and-D prospect. He showed the ability to play off the dribble in college but was more efficient in catch-and-shoot situations. Richard won’t be a stellar athlete in the NBA, but he has the lateral quickness and instincts to be a solid perimeter defender.

“Richard shares physical traits and a skill set with 3-and-D guys like Malik Beasley and Alex Caruso. He’s projected as a second-round pick and will likely begin his career off the bench.”

BREAKING NEWS: Sh0cking NBA trade moves – LeBron James hints at future, shaking up the entire league!

The upcoming NBA free-agency frenzy won’t feature teams hosting elaborate pitch meetings for star players. Nor will it entail teams going on a spending spree.

With supermax extension eligibility, most top NBA players decide their future before the last year of their contract. Amid league-imposed spending restrictions, most NBA teams plan to make cost-cutting moves.

Nonetheless, NBA executives anticipate this week will mark the beginning of a transaction-heavy offseason.

Teams are allowed to begin negotiating with impending free agents beginning Monday at 6 p.m. ET. Players can officially sign contracts with new teams beginning Sunday, July 6, at 12:01 p.m. ET.

Amid all of the uncertainty, below are five bold predictions on how some major decisions will play out.

Milwaukee Bucks will trade Giannis Antetokounmpo

I’m aware that Antetokounmpo has never asked the Bucks to trade him. I understand the Bucks have been adamant they would never do it, anyway. And why wouldn’t they think that way? Antetokounmpo still plays like an MVP candidate. He remains a box office draw. The Eastern Conference landscape is wide open.

Both parties will soon conclude, however, this isn’t sustainable. Damian Lillard isn’t expected to return next season after rupturing his left Achilles tendon. The Bucks have a bloated payroll. They have endured three consecutive first-round playoff exits. May as well secure whatever short- and long-term assets they can during a busy offseason.

So where will the Bucks trade Antetokounmpo? The Houston Rockets already made their big move to acquire Kevin Durant. The Lakers don’t have the interest or assets to acquire a third star. Other teams will shed costs. That’s why it appears likely this deal will involve three teams to spread out the assets. The San Antonio Spurs have stayed beholden to maintaining their young roster, but they can still pull off a deal with multiple teams involved. Stay tuned.

LeBron James will sign a one-plus one deal

James will end his storied NBA career with the Lakers. “That’s the plan. I would love for it to end here,” James said when he turned 40 on Dec. 30. Nothing has changed that plan. Not the Lakers’ first-round playoff exit. Not the Lakers’ ownership change, either. If anything, James’ odds in retiring as a Laker only improved following the Luka Dončić trade. Likewise, the ownership change will enable the organization to spend more on support staff.

The only question: how many years will James play? I don’t think James will announce when he will retire simply because he doesn’t know when he wants it to end. Therefore, James will opt out of his $52.6 million player option. He will then sign a one-plus-one deal so he has time before committing beyond the 2025-26 campaign.

Don’t expect James to take a discount. Nor should he. Even a billionaire needs to maximize his earnings if he wants to become part of an ownership group someday. So the Lakers likely won’t have much room to upgrade their roster, anyway. Just like last season, expect James to wait to agree on the dollar figure until the Lakers finalize the rest of their roster so they have some flexibility.

Jonathan Kuminga will leave Warriors via sign and trade

No more staying patient with Kuminga’s development. No more staying patient with his fluid playing time, either. Kuminga and the Warriors will mutually end their partnership following four seasons filled with intrigue about his athleticism, frustration about his inconsistency and scrutiny about whether they’re developing him properly.

Instead of giving Kuminga a qualifying offer to make him an unrestricted free agent, the Warriors will entertain sign-and-trade deals. The Athletic reported that both the Heat and Kings are suitors. But the Warriors should see if the Celtics will include Derrick White in a deal. Andrew Wiggins became a key piece in the Warriors’ 2022 NBA title run, but he has become inconsistent again. Hence, the Warriors dealt him to Miami to acquire Jimmy Butler.

White embodies the perfect role player on a championship team for his adaptability and hustle. White also would make life easier for Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Butler with his rim protection, defensive versatility and respectable outside shot.

Timberwolves can’t keep all of their free agents

The Wolves would love to keep Julius Randle, Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. It appears those players would love to stay, too.

But all parties also will need to prioritize business concerns. Randle ($31 million) and Reid ($15 million) may want to decline player options in hopes of securing long-term deals. Alexander-Walker, who only earned $4.3 million last season, surely will attract free-agent interest.

Tim Connelly, the Wolves’ president of basketball operations, has said he wants to keep all three players. Randle has become a more refined playmaker. Reid has stayed valuable as both a reserve and starter. Alexander-Walker has thrived as a two-way wing.

But after dealing Karl-Anthony Towns last summer partly for cost-cutting reasons, Minnesota still wants to stay out of the second apron to avoid roster-building restrictions. That makes it likely the Wolves can only keep two out of three. So which ones?

The Wolves likely would prefer Randle for obvious reasons. He’s the team’s second-best player behind Anthony Edwards, and Minnesota traded Towns last season partly to retrieve Randle. How this plays out, however, mostly depends on the open market. That can then determine if Minnesota has any room to convince players to accept a relative discount to ensure continuity.

Pacers will hold onto Myles Turner

Despite hearing his name in constant trade rumors through his 10 seasons with Indiana, Turner likely will want to stay. Despite seeing Turner play inconsistently in the NBA Finals, the Pacers likely will want to keep him.

Though Turner will become an unrestricted free agent, he enters a market with many teams lacking cap space. The Pacers also won’t find better centers available. Therefore, both the Pacers and Turner will make the pragmatic decision to prolong their partnership at least for a little bit longer. Besides, Turner has become a dependable rim protector, scorer and rebounder as the Pacers’ longest-tenured player.

    Golden State Warriors - Wikipedia

The Golden State Warriors entered the 2025 NBA Draft looking to add another young player to their roster alongside their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.

Of course, the Warriors had only one second-round pick in the 2025 draft but after making some trades on Thursday night, they ended up selecting two players in the second round.

Golden State used the 52nd overall pick to select Australian forward Alex Toohey to upgrade their wing depth.

They then drafted Florida champion guard Will Richard with the 56th pick to upgrade their backcourt depth behind Curry.

Warriors’ 2025 NBA Draft Grade: A-

With these two selections, the Warriors earned an A- grade for their 2025 NBA Draft as they added two young talented prospects that could become key role players in the future.

For Toohey, many believed that he would be selected earlier in the second round, though Golden State was able to land him with the 52nd pick.

Last season in the NBL, Toohey averaged 10.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 44.9% from the field and 31.0% from three-point range.

The 21-year-old forward has high upside as he is able to play multiple positions and is a great defender due to his length who should be intriguing for the Warriors to develop.

For Richard, he was a key piece in helping Florida win a National Championship last season.

In his senior season with the Gators, the 6-5 guard averaged 13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 48.7% from the field and 35.9% from three.

Richard is a great scorer who should have an impact off the Warriors’ bench right away and he is also a solid defender.

These were two solid moves for the Warriors as they were able to fill some holes on their roster as they add two more young players who could see a large role next season.

Super Bowl Bound? Why Not the Eagles – Their Linebackers Are Shaking Up the Entire NFL!

Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl 59: Everything you need to know - WHYY

For decades, the Philadelphia Eagles linebacker room was a revolving door of disappointment. One year it was Alex Singleton trying to fill massive gaps. The next, it was converting safety Nate Gerry to linebacker out of desperation. Veterans like Eric Wilson and Duke Riley came and went without making a lasting impact. The position was treated like an afterthought—the Eagles rarely used draft capital, not selecting a linebacker in the first round from 1979 to 2025.

That all changed in a stunning two-year transformation. According to Pro Football Focus’ latest rankings, the Eagles now boast the NFL’s best linebacker unit, spearheaded by 2024’s second-highest graded linebacker Zack Baun and rookie first-round pick Jihaad Campbell.

The numbers tell the story of their previous struggles. In 2022, T.J. Edwards earned an 84.4 PFF overall grade—second-best among all linebackers—while recording 158 tackles. But after losing both Edwards and Kyzir White (110 tackles) to free agency, the 2023 season epitomized these struggles. Second-year player Nakobe Dean was named starter and given the green dot to call the defense, but suffered a foot injury in Week 1. The Eagles scrambled with journeymen including Nicholas Morrow, Zach Cunningham, Myles Jack and Christian Elliss—none providing consistent impact.

Determined to fix the position, the Eagles made linebacker a priority in 2024. They signed Zack Baun to a one-year, $3.5 million prove-it deal, brought in veteran Oren Burks and drafted Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the fifth round. Combined with Dean returning from injury, the Eagles assembled a completely new corps that looked like another collection of question marks.

Everything changed when defensive coordinator Vic Fangio arrived. His system demanded versatile athletes who could cover, blitz, and stop the run with equal effectiveness. At the center of Philadelphia’s renaissance stands Baun, whose journey from New Orleans role player to Philadelphia superstar reads like a sports fairy tale. He finished 2024 with a 90.1 PFF overall grade (second among linebackers), recording 151 total tackles, 5 forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, and 1 interception. In the playoffs, he added 33 tackles and 2 more interceptions, including one in Super Bowl LIX.

Dean provided the perfect complement, earning a 77.4 PFF grade and ranking 11th among qualified linebackers. The contrast was stark—T.J. Edwards posted a career-worst 60.7 PFF grade in 2024 after leaving Philadelphia, showing how Fangio’s system maximized talent. The Eagles rewarded Baun with a three-year, $51 million extension.

The Eagles’ commitment to the position when they traded up to select Alabama’s Jihaad Campbell with the 31st pick in 2025—their first first-round linebacker since Jerry Robinson from UCLA in 1979. Campbell brings rare versatility at 6-3, 244 pounds, with college numbers of 117 tackles, 5 sacks, and 11½ tackles for loss. He offers similar skillsets to Baun, creating multiple looks for Fangio’s defense.

The current room represents perfect construction: Baun as the All-Pro anchor, Campbell as the high-ceiling rookie, Dean as the reliable middle linebacker, Trotter Jr. as the legacy player with high football IQ, Burks as the proven playoff performer, and Smael Mondon Jr. as the developmental prospect. This depth allows exotic blitz packages while ensuring injury protection, as demonstrated when Burks seamlessly replaced Dean during the playoffs.

Linebackers coach Bobby King deserves significant credit for maximizing this diverse group’s collective abilities. The transformation becomes even more impressive historically—Campbell and Baun may finally give the Eagles their answer to legendary duos like Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman, bringing speed, versatility, and instincts to the second level.

The nightmare years of rotating cast members are over. In their place stands a group embodying everything modern NFL linebackers should be: fast, versatile, intelligent, and championship-proven.
