Fox News has received major backlash after they showed live footage of a helicopter cr@shing into the Hudson River today. The cr@sh resulted in the d3ath of 6 people.
Witnesses watched in horror as the helicopter appeared to break apart midair around 3:15 p.m. It fell from the air into the water below, as witnesses captured the terrifying incident on camera. Fox shared the footage live on Facebook, and users tuned in to see rescue crews are responding to the scene.
However, many were disturbed that Fox was showing the sensitive footage, immediately after the tragedy, one writing: “Why would you broadcast live pulling a victim out of the water? Very distasteful!”
There were believed to be six passengers on board at the time of the cr@sh – a pilot, two adults, and three children. Sources said the family were visiting New York City as tourists from Spain.
The helicopter cr@shed on the Jersey City side of the river, and emergency services from both New Jersey and New York rushed to the scene. The chopper appeared to be flipped over in the water, which had an estimated temperature of 50 degrees.
At this point the cause of the cr@sh remains unknown. It is not believed that weather conditions might have caused the cr@sh.
One X account, whose biography claims to debunk Fox News reporting, shared a tweet, writing: “I’ve already seen right-wingers try to blame a female pilot. I haven’t seen any evidence yet that the pilot was a woman. It looks like the helicopter fell apart mid-air.”
Today’s cr@sh comes after a series of unfortunate aircraft incidents in recent months, some of them resulting in fatalities. In January, an an American Airlines plane collided with an army helicopter in Washington DC. President Tr::ump responded by attacking the Federal Aviation Administration’s diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
The tragic incident occurred just one week after Tr::ump initiated a rollback on DEI policies in government jobs. He spoke about DEI hiring for air traffic controllers, saying, “Brilliant people have to be in those positions.”
