Strahan is a great example of an athlete who has successfully created a career in media following his NFL career.
However, he is warning young athletes to focus on their sports and to not get ahead of themselves.
“I look at guys now and I think so many are so focused on the next chapter of life when they’re not getting the most out of this chapter,” he said on the 7pm in Brooklyn podcast.
Anthony is in a similar position, creating content following his retirement from the NBA.
He also recently signed with NBC as a part of their upcoming NBA coverage.
Strahan isn’t pointing towards athletes who build careers in their retirement, but rather those who go into media during their playing time.
Athletes like Draymond Green and Micah Parsons who spend a lot of time podcasting during the season.
“If you can get a podcast … do your thing. I have no hate on any of them,” Strahan said.
“But you better make sure you don’t mess up your primary worrying about something secondary.
“And I see so many guys worried about their secondary job, ‘I want to build a brand.'”

Strahan thinks that teammates and coaches could view these podcasts as distractions.
He used Green as an example of someone who went about his media career the right way.
Green has put together a long NBA career, but didn’t start podcasting until the end of it.
“Draymond has been playing a long time. He wasn’t doing this his first few years in the league,” Strahan said.
NFL important dates 2025 season
March 12 – Free Agency begins
April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin
September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)
November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header
January 4, 2026 – End of regular-season
February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California
“Draymond knows what he can do, how he can do, how he can turn the switch on and off.
“And he’s able to compartmentalize now. When you’re a young, 20-something-year-old player, I don’t think you’re ready.
“Especially if you’re truly committed to what you’re doing.”
Most athletes can find their way into a sports media career after they finish playing.
Whether it’s a podcast or on live TV, players’ careers no longer end after they are done playing.
