A cherished Emmerdale couple could be facing a heartbreaking split. ITV soap viewers will know that Sarah Sugden (played by Katie Hill) and Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) began their relationship over Christmas 2024. They quickly made things official, but devastation soon followed when Jacob ended things with Sarah in the aftermath of the limo crash last year.
The accident tragically claimed the life of Jacob’s mum, Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), alongside Amy Barton (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough). As Jacob worked through his grief, Sarah started developing romantic feelings for newcomer Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah). Jacob and Sarah ultimately reconciled, with Jacob catching his love off guard with an unexpected proposal – which she gladly accepted, reports the Daily Star.

The pair arranged a secret Christmas Eve registry office wedding last year, which fell apart when they turned up to discover that Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) had just married Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) instead.
Sarah and Jacob tied the knot shortly afterwards, months ahead of welcoming their daughter Leyla through surrogacy. Yet the couple remain oblivious to the fact that Leyla isn’t truly their biological daughter. Instead, she is the daughter of Sarah’s grandmother, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who had a one-night stand with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) before acting as Sarah’s surrogate.
Charity’s decision to guard her secret has led to devastating repercussions. Following months of blackmail at the hands of Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), Charity suffered a horrific sexual assault in harrowing scenes.
Now, some Emmerdale viewers believe that Sarah and Jacob could be heading for a break-up, once they both discover the truth about Leyla’s biological parentage.

One viewer posed the question on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page: “Prediction time… which current relationship won’t make it to Christmas?”
Another responded: “Sarah and Jacob,” with a fellow fan adding: “I don’t think they’ll survive finding out Leyla isn’t their child.” A third commented: “I reckon the baby Leyla storyline will break them!”
The tension escalates next week as Charity resolves to stop living in fear and summons Dr Todd to Jacobs Fold to confront her once and for all. As tempers reach boiling point, Charity demands that Todd acknowledge the truth about what transpired between them. However, the doctor responds with a chilling threat to reveal the secret surrounding Leyla’s parentage to Sarah.
