GMB’s Hidden History: From @ff@ir? to Soulmates – Richard Madeley finally BREAKS SILENCE with a Heartfelt Confession that leaves Judy Finnigan Speechless!
This Morning stars Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan appeared as loved up as ever as they took time out of their busy schedule for a lunch date.
The Good Morning Britain host, 67, walked hand-in-hand with his wife of 27 years as they went to The Spaniards Inn in Hampstead, London. Richard kept casual as he wore a pair of blue jeans, a white T-shirt and black puffer jacket paired with New Balance trainers. Judy, 75, stepped out in a flowing grey top over a paid of black trousers, topped with a Chanel necklace.
They both donned sunglasses as they took in the warm weather. After their spot of lunch, Richard proved he is a gentleman as he opened the door of their cream VW Beetle for Judy. The TV couple marked 37 years of marriage back in January and have lived together for the past 40.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain at the time, Richard said: “I can’t believe it actually… because it seems about 15 years but yeah it’s my 37th wedding anniversary!” Co-host Susanna Reid added: “Wow, congratulations Richard and Judy!” Richard continued: “Actually, because we were together a few years before that, it’s actually sort of 40 years of being under the same roof, which is just ridiculous!”
Susanna joked: “Long service medals all round… or just for Judy!”, as Richard quipped: “I think just for Judy, yeah!” Richard explained they were going to celebrate with a “posh dinner”. They first met in 1982 when Richard joined Granada to present alongside Tony Wilson and Judy, who at eight years his senior was the more experienced journalist.
“I remember the first time I saw him. He walked into the newsroom and I was sitting at my desk at the other end,” Judy was recalled of their fateful first meeting. “I remember exactly what he was wearing: a pale blue linen suit. I thought he looked nice. Tall, handsome and all that but I thought the suit was a bit flash. Then, because he was a newbie, I was assigned the job of looking after him,” she told the Mirror.

Attraction continued to build for the pair, yet they were both married. Judy was married to journalist David Henshaw and Richard to his first wife Lynda. One night they went out for dinner and their aff@ir began, although both have insisted it was much more than a “sordid office aff@ir”.
Judy feared Richard, then 26, wasn’t ready to be a step-father to her then six-year-old twins Dan and Tom. She decided to call things off, which prompted Richard to head to Greece armed with a bag of step-parenting books to do some soul searching. It took Judy a year to make up her mind and leave her husband for Richard.

They welcomed son Jack, 33, in 1986 after a difficult pregnancy, and just as Judy was about to return from maternity leave, she found out she was expecting daughter Chloe, 32. A hormonal imbalance then sparked post-natal depression, and would become so severe that she was forced to have a hysterectomy in 1998.
Richard and Judy have admitted they’ve got a “jealous, passionate” relationship. “Judy is my heart,” Richard once said of his wife. “If she wasn’t here it would remove all the point to my life.” While Judy told the Daily Mail: “If any two people were meant for each other, we were, and I adore him. He’s so good for me emotionally because I tend to be melancholic.” Richard and Judy presented This Morning from 1988 until 2001 before they hosted their own show, Richard & Judy until 2009.
