King Charles ‘chooses Harry’s side’ as Prince William reaches breaking point over Sussex return
King Charles is reportedly facing a growing family crisis as his determination to rebuild his relationship with Prince Harry puts him increasingly at odds with his heir, Prince William.
With Harry and Meghan Markle preparing to spend an extended period in Britain, tensions between Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace are said to be intensifying behind the scenes.
According to a report in New Idea, William’s patience is being tested as his father appears increasingly willing to welcome Harry back into the royal family’s orbit.
A source claimed the future King is deeply concerned that Charles’ desire for reconciliation could leave him in an “untenable position”, particularly when it comes to the security and privacy of William’s family.
“His position is clear – the security and safety of the family,” the source claimed.
The reported disagreement highlights the difficult position facing Charles.
The monarch has already taken steps towards repairing his relationship with Harry, including hosting his youngest son at Highgrove. There has also been speculation about whether Harry could spend more time with his father at Balmoral.
For Charles, the prospect of having Harry, Meghan and his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet closer to Britain is understandably significant.
But William is reportedly looking at the situation through an entirely different lens.
The Prince of Wales has remained estranged from Harry following years of bitter disagreements and public revelations. The possibility of his brother returning to Britain for an extended period therefore raises questions about how often the two families could be expected to interact.
One particularly sensitive issue is the possibility of Harry attending major royal occasions.
With his return reportedly taking place before Christmas, speculation has already emerged over whether the Sussexes could eventually appear at a family Christmas gathering.
Such a development could force William and Harry into the same room after years of barely speaking.
But William’s alleged concerns go beyond awkward family encounters.
The source claimed he fears that Charles could become too focused on the excitement of having his grandchildren nearby while underestimating the potential risks surrounding renewed contact with Harry and Meghan.
“Charles is all caught up in the excitement of seeing his grandkids, but what about leaks and tell-alls?” the source reportedly questioned.
That fear touches on one of the most painful aspects of the brothers’ fractured relationship.
Harry has previously spoken publicly about deeply private family matters, including his relationship with William and his experiences within the monarchy. For William, the possibility of another wave of revelations could make reconciliation particularly difficult.
The source described the situation as “incredibly frustrating” for the future King and suggested there is concern that Charles could be walking into a trap.
