“IM SPTUPID” – What seemed like a joke confession wasn’t – Gethin Jones from Morning Live questions himself over a Serious Mistake!

Gethin Jones of BBC Morning Live has openly shared his lack of awareness regarding his recent health diagnosis.

On Thursday’s programme, co-host Sara Davies highlighted to viewers that over two in five people in England are battling high cholesterol.

She then pointedly remarked to Gethin: “Including you!” To which he acknowledged: “Yeah, that’s right. I got diagnosed recently. We know it can cause heart disease in the future and strokes as well.”

He expressed his concern, saying: “It’s something you’ve really got to take seriously. I just had so many questions! I felt really uneducated.”

Keen to delve deeper, Gethin engaged with specialists in a recorded piece about the internal effects of cholesterol and ways to lower it, reports Surrey Live.

BBC audiences were privy to Gethin’s astonishment at his own high cholesterol levels despite leading what he considered a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, good eating habits and moderate alcohol consumption.

He revealed: “It was actually my sister who told me to get my cholesterol tested in the first place. I was surprised to hear that it was high.

“I’m someone who takes my health seriously, and I want a better understanding as to why my cholesterol is high and learn how to manage it.”

In conversation with Professor Peter Penson, Gethin learned an essential fact, most cholesterol is internally generated, not derived from diet. The professor reassured him: “It doesn’t come from our diet. It’s not a failure if you can’t get your cholesterol to the optimal levels with diet and lifestyle.”

Keen to get the lowdown on dietary dos and don’ts, Gethin Jones recently sought expertise from a dietitian, leading to some enlightening advice for the BBC personality and viewers alike.

During their chat, the nutritional consultant offered a nugget of wisdom to the BBC host, telling him: “Not all ultra-processed foods are bad for us. In this case, they do indeed help to lower cholesterol. However, the jury is out on whether do they indeed reduce the risk of heart disease.”

The diet expert suggested that if Gethin tweaked his eating habits and underwent a blood test after three months, there could be quite the noteworthy drop in his cholesterol levels, should he change other aspects of his life as well.

Signing off the segment, Gethin told Sara about the valuable insights he gained from his deep dive into healthy eating, revealing an eye-opener he had along the way.

With sincerity, he imparted: “I hope that’s useful to people in the same situation. It’s those little things, you know. The rice and pasta for example, I used to get white rice and think it was lower in saturated fat than brown rice.

“But, you look at fibre and it’s got almost three or four times more than the brown pasta or brown rice. Those little changes I’m going to try and make, and hopefully, I can reduce my cholesterol.”
