Sky News ground to a halt minutes into their evening show as they issued a major royal update from the palace. On Friday (July 10), broadcaster Manish Bhasin returned to the airwaves to deliver the latest news hitting the headlines. But minutes into the programme, the presenter was forced to disrupt the show to deliver a major announcement from the King and Queen.
He began: “Here’s some other breaking news now. It’s understood the King and Queen have hosted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet at Highgrove House today. Before today, the Duke of Sussex had only seen his father once in the last two-and-a-half years.

“The King and Queen hosted them at Highgrove, in Gloucestershire. It had been unclear if Meghan and the children would join Harry on his visit to the UK.” It didn’t take long for viewers to flock to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their thoughts on the latest development.
One user scoffed: “Now, how easy was that? After all the will she, won’t she, and she and the two children slipped in for a private visit with no camera leaks. But of course, they needed a press release [yawning emoji]. Anyhoo, in future, it’s clear that Harry and his family can quietly visit his dad if they want to.”
Another agreed: “I thought she was never going to see the Royal Family again after their treatment of Prince Harry by not allowing him to stay at Buckingham Palace.” A third echoed: “Oh, so the UK is now safe enough for them? Bring on King William – at least he will restore some dignity, pride and strength back to Great Britain.” Meanwhile, a fourth quipped: “That’ll make it into the next book.”
The monarch hosted the Sussexes for a private meeting with no images of the family reunion set to be released. It is understood that Meghan travelled with their two children earlier today while Prince Harry was marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Birmingham Invictus Games.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, who were at the annual charity polo match in Windsor, did not attend. It marks the first time the King has seen his two youngest grandchildren in over four years, since the family moved to the UK for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.
Meghan had been due to attend the Birmingham event with her husband today, but did not fly to the UK with her husband as initially planned due to security concerns. After Harry left the Birmingham venue at lunchtime, it is understood that he travelled about 90 miles to the King’s private residence in Gloucestershire, where Meghan and the children met him.
It is not known how long the Sussex family stayed at Highgrove, but the significant family reunion comes after a bruising week for the Duke, who lost a £50million privacy case against the publishers of the Daily Mail. The family are expected to spend the weekend at Althorp House with the Spencer family, where they will visit the grave of Harry’s mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
