Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reunion with King Charles was at Highgrove because it allowed the Sussexes to enter undetected, a royal commentator says. Richard Eden suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet would have been able to get through the gates as there was an event held by Chanel at the King’s private residence on the same day.
He explained on the Daily Mail podcast, Palace Confidential, that with a number of vehicles and visitors going back and forth at the Gloucestershire estate, it would have allowed the Sussexes to more easily get past any waiting paparazzi.
Eden said: “It was quite cleverly timed in that way.”

Buckingham Palace confirmed at about 6.45pm on Friday, July 10, that the King and Queen Camilla hosted the Sussexes at Highgrove, which is west of London.
The announcement ended weeks of speculation over whether or not the Duchess and Sussex siblings would join Harry on his trip to the UK.
Daily Mail Senior Editor-at-Large, Richard Kay, said the choice of Highgrove was “critical” for the reunion because it was a childhood home to Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William.
He said: “Harry’s childhood home: the playgroud, the tree house, the swimming pool. All the things that he remembers from his childhood, he’ll want to show his children.
“It was a great diversion. I know there was also a lavish tea. It helps eat up the minutes. It wasn’t a very long meeting, but when you’ve got all that going on… I imagine [it] would have helped smooth the time to avoid any awkward silences.”

Eden told Palace Confidential: “I’m sure they had a lovely time but we know nothing about it, other than Queen Camilla was there, which is unusual because she does usually spend weekends at her own retreat.”
The commentator said Highgrove has a number of attractions, including “spectacular” gardens and a “wonderful” treehouse built for William and Harry when they were children.
Eden imagined Archie and Lilibet would have had an opportunity to explore the estate and had fun doing so.
But he said the “big test” would be whether details of the visit emerge from the Sussex side.
He added that for Harry and Meghan to forge deeper ties with the King, the monarch would need to feel assured that not everything will immediately be appear on Netflix or in US magazines.
It comes after Harry and Meghan made a series of allegations in a TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, in their Netflix series and in the Duke’s memoir, Spare.
