During a Thursday morning press briefing at the Pentagon, Defense Secr3tary Pete Hegseth, a former Fox & Friends Weekend co-host, publicly crit1cized former colleague Jennifer Griffin, calling her “about the worst” and accusing her of “m1srepresenting” reports on the U.S. recent str1kes on Ir::a::n.
His remarks quickly sparked backl4sh from journ4lists and critics.
The exchange happened days after the U.S. struck three Ir::a::nian nuclear s1tes – Isfahan, Fordow, and Natanz – using B-2 stealth b0mbers with bunker-busting b0mbs. Tr::u::mp claimed “total obl1teration” of Fordow, though the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) reported only damage, not complete destruction.
At the briefing, Jennifer Griffin, Fox News’ chief national security correspondent, asked: “Are you certain all the highly enriched uranium was still inside Fordow mountain? Satellite photos showed a dozen trucks two days earlier – could any have been moved?”
Previously, Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told Fox News: “We do not have information on the whereabouts of this material”, referring to roughly 900 pounds of enriched uranium Ir::a::nian officials say they removed.
Hegseth replied, “Of course, we’re monitoring every aspect,” then sharply added: “Jennifer, you’ve been about the worst. The one who m1srepresents the most intentionally.”
Griffin, surprised, responded: “I take issue with that, I’ve simply reported on the B-2s and the mission.”
Critics, including Brit Hume, defended Griffin, calling Hegseth’s attck “undeserved.”
Ron Filipkowski wrote: “Hegseth even attcks the Fox reporter. It’s all about attcking the media.”
