Whoopi on a Friday? Viewers double take as Goldberg fills in for Joy Behar

Longtime co-host Whoopi Goldberg makes rare end-of-week appearance as Joy Behar misses third show this week.

Viewers tuning into The View on April 11, were caught off guard when they saw Whoopi Goldberg at the table despite famously taking off on Fridays.

Goldberg joined Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Sunny Hostin for the Friday broadcast, taking over her usual moderator role despite it being her typical day off.

“I know y’all are watching this and going, ‘What the hell is going on here?’ Yes, it’s Friday,” Goldberg opened the show, immediately addressing the surprise. Haines chimed in with a laugh: “Nobody told Whoopi!”

Goldberg was quick to clarify that she was well aware it wasn’t her scheduled day. “Oh, many people told me!” she said.

“But Joy’s under the weather today and I can’t leave y’all hanging. So I wanted to make sure I was here. She’ll be back on the weekend View, streaming on ABC News Live. I’m so glad y’all are doing this.”

Joy Behar, who typically moderates Friday episodes when Goldberg is off, missed her third show of the week.

Behar was last seen on the Wednesday, April 9, broadcast, where she offered strong opinions about Tr::ump’s proposed military parade. “Who do you think is paying for this?!” she asked on-air.

Without Behar or Goldberg originally scheduled, the show faced a potential gap in leadership until Whoopi stepped in.

One topic on the table was recent speculation around Barack and Michelle Obama’s marriage, following Michelle’s absence at both Donald Tr::ump’s Inauguration and Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Michelle recently denied the divorce rumors, stating that she was making a decision “for [herself].”

“I think addressing rumors like this head-on is a great move,” Goldberg commented. Hostin backed her up, saying: “I love what she says, though. Can’t it just be a grown woman making a decision for herself?”
