A Place in the Sun presenter Craig Rowe found himself in a challenging property search that saw one potential buyer walk away. In the latest episode, he was helping Jane and James find their dream holiday home in eastern Crete, an area with special significance for the couple, who had £130,000 to invest.

Jane and James had high hopes, seeking “a champagne house for a lemonade budget,” which proved to be an impossible task for the host. James said of the area: “We had our very first holiday in Crete, we got engaged in Pathos and we came to our honeymoon in Crete.”

The duo was searching for a two-bedroom property near the beach, despite Craig cautioning them about the region’s average property prices hovering around £190,000. Nevertheless, they tried to stay positive in pursuit of their perfect retreat.

Their search began on a high note with a charming two-bedroom stone village house in Limnes, priced at £119,658, catching their interest.

However, enthusiasm waned during the viewing of the second property, a three-bedroom stone house in Episkopi. Close to the beach, Craig hoped it would appeal to Jane and James’ desires, reports the Mirror.

Yet upon entering the property, Jane immediately dismissed it with a resolute: “No it’s too small. I’m not feeling it.” Her reaction was so strong that when Craig suggested showing them around, Jane opted to exit, leaving James to explore the terrace which simply reinforced their initial opinion.

Craig, caught off-guard by their quick dismissal, commented: “I had halved the time it takes them to get the beach so I had high hopes for this one. But they really didn’t like it.”

Following further property viewings that left much to be desired, Jane and James eventually decided to increase their budget by £30,000. Craig, unfazed by the setback, remained hopeful, telling the couple: “I’ve got one more chance to impress you, my rather demanding house-hunters.”

Alas, the quest concluded without success, prompting Jane and James to admit that their property hunt strategy might need revision.

In reflection, James candidly stated: “To be brutally honest, we got ourselves a bit confused. What we thought we wanted, we realised it maybe wasn’t that at all,” acknowledging their preference for a low-maintenance holiday home with distinct character.
