3 Reasons Why Patrick Mahomes Is Still the NFL’s #1 – Even Without a Championship!
We still have a few days to go before mandatory training camps and a new NFL season. However, Patrick Mahomes is already at the top of all the lists, and everything indicates that he will continue to grow.
As Qiant “Your Boy Q” Myers and Andscape analyst David Dennis Jr. said on Tuesday on ESPN Radio’s “GameNight,” the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is the “new” face of the NFL heading into the 2025 season.
The host did not hesitate for a second to say that Mahomes is the best player in the NFL: “Number one is still the guy until he’s replaced by someone else, and that’s Patrick Mahomes.”
“Even when he may take a slight step back, and maybe the gap between number one quarterback and number two isn’t quite as large as it used to be, he’s still Patrick ,” he said.
These words come after ESPN recently released its annual list of the league’s best quarterbacks, based on the results of surveys of executives, scouts, and coaches in the sport. There, the Chiefs quarterback ranked number one and Josh Allen ranked second, although some believe that the Buffalo Bills star could soon take that spot away from him.
Myers backed up his position by saying that “every team in the league has been looking for their Patrick Mahomes” since he arrived and led all categories. Dennis Jr. did not disagree, but supported his statements by adding that the visibility and strength of the 29-year-old quarterback is something to be highlighted and that not everyone has achieved.
“Whenever you are somebody who is in the Super Bowl every year, you’re probably going to be facing the league. Can’t count how many ads he’s been in. All that stuff. Uh, Patrick Mahomes. Can’t argue.”
Mahomes’ legacy
The truth is that this year, Pat came very close to becoming a three-time champion and making history in the league. And even though the Philadelphia Eagles got in the way and snatched Kansas City’s dream of winning Super Bowl LIX, reaching the final three times in a row is already an achievement. Or at least it’s a merit worth highlighting.
And although it wasn’t his best season since 2018, he finished the year with 3,928 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
As if that weren’t enough, the quarterback is preparing to start his ninth year in the league, and his three Super Bowl rings (LIV, LVII, LVIII), three Super Bowl MVP awards, and two NFL Most Valuable Player awards (2018 and 2022) are proof of his dynasty.
And if the Super Bowl loss has only whetted his appetite for victory, everything indicates that he will do whatever it takes to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy once again and remain the face of the Chiefs and the NFL.
