KING CHARLES ANNOUNCEMENT: GB News cuts into coverage with a sudden royal update

GB News was paused for an update on King Charles as he addressed Congress in the US. King Charles arrived in the US with Queen Camilla for a state visit on Monday (April 28) to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. The 77-year-old addressed a joint session of congress, marking the second time a British monarch has done so. Much of his speech focused on the relationship and history between the US and the UK, while he also praised NATO, the organisation Trump has repeatedly criticised in recent weeks.
He also addressed the assassination attempt on the US president, saying: “We meet in the aftermath of the incident not far from this building that sought to harm the leadership of your nation and to ferment wider fear and discord. Let me say with unshakeable resolve: such acts of violence will never succeed.

“Whatever our differences, whatever disagreements we may have, we stand united in our commitment to uphold democracy, to protect all our people from harm and to salute the courage of those who daily risk their lives in the service of our country.”
Discussing the history of the special relationship between the UK and the US, Charles continued: “Today, I am here on this great occasion in the life of our nations to express the highest regard and friendship of the British people to the people of the United States.
“We can perhaps agree that we do not always agree. Ours is a partnership born out of dispute, but no less strong for it. Perhaps we can discern that our nations are instinctively like-minded.”
Afterwards, GB News’ royal correspondent Cameron Walker revealed the king received 13 separate standing ovations from US lawmakers during his speech.
“That’s 10 more than his mother received when she addressed a joint session of US Congress back in 1991. Clearly a huge respect from US lawmakers to King Charles,” Cameron said.
He also said that King Charles discussed other aspects of his visit, including plans to pay tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“He reminded the American politicians that that was when NATO invoked Article 5. ‘An attack on one is an attack on all.’ And British forces came to the aid of the United States of America. That got a huge applause from US lawmakers,” Cameron told viewers.
He added: “This is all happening in the context of President Trump criticising our armed forces and criticising the United Kingdom’s response to his war with Iran. President Trump likened our own Royal Navy aircraft carriers to toys compared to that of the US’s, essentially mocking the Royal Navy.
“Perhaps a subtle suggestion to President Trump that our armed forces have, over the decades, been there for the United States of America.”
